Toyota’s New GR Corolla Lands in Japan
As a thrilled car enthusiast, I’m excited to share that I’ve been following the developments of the upgraded GR Corolla, exclusively designed for the Japanese market by Toyota. Drawing from their rich motorsports knowledge, they’ve crafted this beauty to deliver an exceptional performance and driving experience. Pre-orders started on February 4, with the grand launch happening on March 3. I can hardly wait!
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that the enhanced GR Corolla, honed by my experience in the demanding Super Taikyu racing series, undergoes advancements specifically targeting superior high-speed cornering, acceleration, and cooling. A standout feature is the innovative 8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (GR-DAT), a technology that made its debut in the GR Yaris.
Improvements were made based on feedback from expert racers, assessment experts, and Toyota’s top driver Morizo. These enhancements aim to provide thrilling performance both on the race track and during everyday driving.
The SPORT package, which is optional, introduces high-end, racing-inspired details to the cabin. This includes unique semi-bucket seats, a steering wheel, shift knob, and parking brake grip all covered in Ultrasuede material. Additionally, red three-point seat belts and black interior accents are included in this package.
An interesting extra feature is the recently introduced Circuit Mode, which becomes active at certain Japanese race tracks using GPS and a specific app. This mode allows for anti-lag settings, raises the speed limiter, optimizes engine cooling, and offers smart shift suggestions for seamless gear changes when driving at high performance levels on the track.
Present GR Corolla owners won’t miss out; Toyota provides upgrade kits, enabling them to install specific performance upgrades from the advanced model onto their own vehicles.
