Toy Story 5: The Full Cast Revealed! Meet the Characters Coming Back to the Big Screen
The beloved movie franchise, Toy Story, is set to make a comeback on June 19, 2026 for its fifth installment. While Toy Story 4 left fans in tears with Woody accepting his role as a “lost toy,” it appears that this isn’t the end of their journey together. In fact, back in 2023, Disney confirmed the production of another Toy Story film and the reappearance of some cherished characters.
Acclaimed by millions across the globe, Toy Story revolutionized digital storytelling in 1995. It demonstrated that digital animation could convey narratives with the same emotional depth as traditional hand-drawn and live-action tales, elevating Pixar to its renowned status.
The franchise has sparked a fresh wave of movie-making creativity, and its newest cinematic appearance is just one of numerous eagerly anticipated Pixar productions to come.
Every Character Confirmed To Appear in Toy Story 5
Woody
“He’s the rootinest, tootinest, shootinest, hootinest cowboy around!”
Following Woody’s heartfelt exit from Bonnie’s toy box in “Toy Story 4”, loyal fans can look forward to the exciting news that Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), who was once Andy’s cherished plaything, will be meeting up with his old companions again.
As a dedicated Toy Story fan, I found myself amongst the divided spectators after watching Toy Story 4. Since Andy’s seventh birthday, I had been following Woody’s adventures, and in this latest chapter, our beloved sheriff reconnected with Bo Peep and took a leap out of Bonnie’s toy box, stepping beyond the familiar confines of safety.
However, a genuine Toy Story movie isn’t complete without the character Woody leading the way, and it appears that he, along with the rest of the original group, has been brought together once more for another feature-length escapade.
It’s intriguing to anticipate how Pixar will connect the emotional chasm between the ending of Toy Story 4 and this seemingly reunited scenario. Given Woody’s popularity among fans, it’s unlikely they’ll grumble at his reappearance.
Buzz Lightyear
In Toy Story 4, Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen) played a more supportive role, providing humorous interludes as Woody struggled with feelings of being surpassed. This time around, it wasn’t Buzz who was stealing the limelight, but Forky, a toy made from a spork that Bonnie crafted on her first day of kindergarten who ended up grabbing everyone’s attention instead.
Although Buzz is undeniably a timeless character, the spin-off film, Lightyear, didn’t quite meet its target audience’s expectations. This underperformance mirrors the challenging phase that Disney has been navigating recently.
Lately, challenges like “Snow White” have caused Disney to pause on reimagining cherished originals. Instead, they’re banking on “Toy Story 5” to steer the company back on course.
From my understanding, further information about the upcoming movie seems to be kept confidential, but it looks like my character, Buzz Lightyear, will have a more intricate storyline. This stems from the fact that I’ll be going up against a horde of malfunctioning Buzz action figures.
Voice actor Tim Allen hinted at a “spectacular beginning featuring Buzz Lightyear,” implying that the anticipated confrontation may occur right from the start.
Jessie
Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack) has endured her share of heartache over the years.
As I reflect on my cinematic journey, let me share a poignant moment from 1999 that left an indelible mark on me. This was my first appearance on the big screen, and it was here that I bared my soul to the world, narrating a tale so heart-wrenching, it still echoes today.
I spoke of my time with my initial guardian, Emily, and the long periods spent in storage. The pain of those years resonated powerfully through the movie, culminating in the haunting melody of “When Somebody Loved Me“. To many viewers, this ballad remains one of the most poignant songs ever sung in a film, a testament to the profound emotion it evoked.
In “Toy Story 4”, critics noted that the character of Jessie seemed to take a backseat. Although she was part of the movie, her role was more peripheral as the story primarily centered around Woody reconnecting with Bo Peep.
In the upcoming film, Toy Story 5, it seems that Jesse could be taking on her most significant role thus far, as suggested by Tim Allen’s recent comments indicating a substantial part for Jesse in the movie.
Rex
In the upcoming “Toy Story” movie, everyone’s favorite dinosaur character, Rex (voiced by Wallace Shawn), has been confirmed to make a comeback. Despite not being particularly fierce, Rex more than compensates with his heartwarming persona and knack for providing humor.
Despite not having a tragic past, similar to Jessie, Rex experiences bouts of anxiety. It appears that this aspect of his character will be challenged again.
His comeback suggests he’ll join the group, fighting diverse challenges ranging from a Buzz Lightyear force to the growing influence of technology and tablets in kids’ environments.
Hamm
For three decades, Hamm – voiced by John Ratzenberger – has been a witty and sarcastic savings container in the Toy Box, playing a significant role throughout this time.
The anticipated comeback promises a warm reception since the increasing complexity of electronics poses a significant challenge for the toys. As of now, specifics about his position within the group remain unclear, but it appears that this skilled collector of coins may employ his quick intellect and ingenuity to aid the team and ultimately resolve the situation.
Slinky
Despite having a more supporting character in “Toy Story 4”, Slinky (voiced by Blake Clark), continues to be a cherished member of the group. In fact, his popularity led to the creation of an amusement park ride, Slinky Dog Dash, at Walt Disney World in Florida.
This long and flexible dachshund is always ready to lend a paw, whether it’s rescuing the day or playing a friendly game of checkers with Woody, as shown in his debut back in 1995. Over the course of four movies, Slinky has demonstrated unwavering loyalty, and this devotion could be crucial when fresh obstacles present themselves in Toy Story 5.
Bullseye
Bullseye is a tranquil yet dependable sidekick. He’s a toy modeled after Woody’s Round-Up, a fictional 1950s television program that originated in the world of Toy Story, where characters like Jessie, Stinky Pete, and naturally, Woody, were born.
Despite remaining silent throughout the movies, this character has always been pivotal, displaying an endearing loyalty toward his favored cowboy. Although he usually plays a secondary role, fans anticipate that Toy Story 5 might finally grant this perennial toy box figure his moment in the limelight.
Forky
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, let me tell you about the newest member who joined our cinematic journey – Forky, voiced by none other than Tony Hale! Just like Buzz Lightyear in the first “Toy Story”, Forky too had his grand entrance in “Toy Story 4”. He found himself in a situation similar to when Buzz believed he was no longer a toy, having crash-landed in Andy’s room.
In 2018, we find ourselves catching up with Toy Story 4, where a unique character named Forky appears. Unlike the other toys, Forky maintains he’s not a toy at all – just a spork that has been creatively reimagined as a craft project. This innovative twist provides a refreshing perspective on what it signifies to be part of a group.
In a homemade toy, the spork could play a significant role in “Toy Story 5”. He symbolizes an increasing divide between toys as tangible childhood companions, shifting from traditional dolls and action figures to the digital gadgets and screen time that have become prevalent in children’s free time.
In the upcoming movie, Forky’s comeback could range from frenzied to humorous to contemplative as it delves into the query: What defines a toy as ‘real’ in an era dominated by smartphones and virtual worlds.
Combat Carl
“Combat Carl never gives up! Combat Carl finds a way!”
Originally, the character known as Combat Carl made his debut in the movie “Toy Story”. Unfortunately, he had a short-lived and sadistic role as one of Sid’s toys that were cruelly destroyed, ending in an explosion.
Later on, Combat Carl was fully developed in the spin-off TV special, Toy Story of Terror! He showcases a number of traits typical of an ’80s action figure, such as being bold and using catchy phrases!
Back in 2024, I lost a fellow film enthusiast and legend, Carl Weathers. Known for his remarkable career in professional football, iconic portrayal of Apollo Creed in the Rocky series, and his stellar work on The Mandalorian, his voice brought life to my favorite character, Combat Carl. His loss left a significant gap in the film industry, but his legacy continues to inspire us all.
Ernie Hudson has been cast for the part in the upcoming project. He is recognized for his voiceover roles, notably in “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” and is set to continue this work in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.” Whether or not he will appear in the supposed sequel to “Ghostbusters” has yet to be determined.
Anna Faris’ Unknown Character
There isn’t much information available about Anna Faris’ character in Toy Story 5, but considering the hinted theme of toys versus technology, we can make some educated guesses.
Faris has earned recognition for her comedic delivery and seems ideally suited to join the gang in the Toy Story universe. Although nothing is definite, there’s speculation that Faris might lend her voice to a self-aware tech device, like a tablet, virtual assistant, or even an AI-upgraded plaything.
As kids tend to favor digital amusements more, the concept of a ‘tech plaything’ achieving the same level of consciousness as Woody, Buzz, and Jessie might present some intriguing hurdles. However, it remains uncertain what part Faris will play in Toy Story 5.
Before then, Pixar fans have plenty to look forward to before reuniting with Andy’s old toys.
