‘Toxic Avenger’ Trailer 2: Kevin Bacon’s Evilness & Ultra-Violent Toxie Revenge

The movie that once appeared to be doomed, destined for the trash bin, is now making a comeback. Originally a Troma production known for its low-budget quality, the reboot of this classic film will hit cinemas this August. A fresh glimpse at the main character, the mop-wielding protagonist, has been unveiled in the most recent trailer.

The Toxic Avenger, originally a 1984 low-budget horror classic, gets a modern remake. In this version, a timid and tormented janitor finds himself accidentally tossed into a vat of toxic waste, resulting in a grotesque transformation into a vengeful anti-hero. With a twisted sense of justice, he takes on those who have wronged him, exacting bloody retribution. The new adaptation, helmed by Macon Blair, is expected to largely follow the original storyline, but boasts an impressive ensemble cast.

In addition to Dinklage playing Winston Gooze/The Toxic Avenger, the movie boasts a star-studded cast including Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, and Julia Davis. Initial reactions from its premiere in 2023, which garnered an impressive 92% rating, raised curiosity as to why the film was overlooked for distribution, remaining undistributed for two years. However, with its upcoming release, eager fans are anxiously anticipating the opportunity to watch it.

What Do Early Reviews Say About ‘The Toxic Avenger’?

As I attended the premiere of “The Toxic Avenger” in September 2023, I must confess that I was initially taken aback by the anticipation surrounding this film. Many critics had low expectations, believing it would be just another run-of-the-mill production. Boy, were they wrong! The movie turned out to be a wild, gory rollercoaster ride, leaving audiences in awe with its sheer insanity. Compared to Lloyd Kaufman’s original masterpiece, this new version of “Toxie” seems positively unhinged. Two reviews I’ve read promise an extraordinary cinematic experience that is not to be missed!

If Paul Verhoeven had directed a Troma film in place of ROBOCOP back in 1987, it could have resembled Macon Blair’s THE TOXIC AVENGER. (Phil Nobile Jr.)

As a cinephile, let me tell you that this reboot is chock-full of moments where I found myself exclaiming, “Wow, I’ve never witnessed such an extraordinary explosion like that!” It’s so quirky and self-aware that it makes you question reality. And oh boy, if the walls could talk, they’d say Kevin Bacon ate them all – he’s devoured every bit of scenery in this world!

In my recent critique of the movie, I couldn’t help but join the chorus of acclaim. James Preston Poole from Discussing Film echoed this sentiment, remarking that…

Blair’s fresh approach to The Toxic Avenger departs significantly from the cleaner portrayal, offering a wild, edgy spectacle that’s likely to spark disagreement among viewers.

This review is likely the ideal one for a film similar to “The Toxic Avenger”. Fans of Troma productions are certain to embrace this movie wholeheartedly, while those who have been turned off by the recent acclaim of movies such as “Terrifier 3” and “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” will undoubtedly desire nothing less than its destruction.
