TOWIE’s Kelsey Stratford left furious after her disabled sister, 12, is kicked out of children’s disco because she can’t sit up

The refusal to let Kennedy, a delightful 12-year-old girl living with spinal muscular atrophy type 1, enjoy a simple disco experience is a stark reminder of the barriers still present in our society.

Previously known TOWIE personality, Kelsey Stratford, expressed criticism towards Popworld in Southend, following an incident where her disabled sister, Kennedy (age 12), was denied access to a dance event due to her inability to sit or stand for extended periods.

As an infant, Kennedy received a diagnosis of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1, leaving him unable to move from his neck downwards. He also struggles with speaking and swallowing effectively.

As a devoted fan, I’ve voiced my disapproval towards the establishment for denying entry to Kennedy, despite letting me in at the Little Ravers event, at the age of 24, that is, Kelsey.

The reality TV personality shared that her sister, who was having a great time at the disco, was upset by the entire situation and could hear staff informing her caretakers that she needed to depart.

Every day, my sister fights valiantly against a harsh illness that has stripped her of physical mobility, yet left her intellect untouched. This was shared with The Sun by the previous celebrity.

She had been eagerly anticipating the sense of belonging at the children’s rave, but unfortunately, she was abruptly asked to leave because she couldn’t stand on her own. Despite enduring daily hardships, this event held special significance for her, offering a glimmer of happiness. I find myself feeling increasingly isolated and pained in a life that has already endured its share of heartache. Is it just that I’m not getting my fair share?

Additionally, Kelsey’s stepfather, Paul, voiced his disapproval towards Popworld on social media. His post read: ‘Yesterday, my stunning daughter Kennedy had a ticket for the Little Ravers Christmas party at Popworld Southend.’

‘Kennedy had been looking forward to this for a year as she loves both a rave and party.

Initially, Kennedy was allowed inside, but everything seemed fine until they informed us that Kennedy must be able to sit up; otherwise, she would need to leave. This momentarily took my breath away as I realized they were asking a young girl, who was already dancing and singing, to depart simply because she couldn’t do something as simple as sitting or standing!

It became even more frustrating when the Deputy Manager mentioned that she was unable to help because of the risk involved, meaning Kennedy couldn’t enter the area.

‘Remember Kennedy is hearing all this, cognitively she is not disabled, as they demand she leaves like she is a threat to the public and other children! Disgusting behaviour from the individuals involved!!’

A representative from Popworld conveyed to TopMob, “We deeply regret the trouble this matter has brought upon Kennedy and her loved ones.

We aim to create an atmosphere that’s welcoming to everyone, and gatherings such as Little Ravers are specifically tailored for families to partake in, allowing adults like parents and caregivers to join their kids in a thrilling, fresh setting while having a great time together.

‘We take accessibility very seriously and guest safety is our absolute priority.

Nevertheless, it’s evident that we made a mistake on this particular occasion. We’re meticulously examining our risk assessment procedures and team training to prevent such incidents from recurring. We’ve been in touch with Kennedy’s parents, and we eagerly look forward to their return at our place again soon.

After getting dismissed from TOWIE in 2021, Kelsey decided to step away entirely from the entertainment industry. Instead, she’s devoted her time to training as a caregiver with the aim of assisting others.

Initially, Kennedy required life support following a bout with COVID-19. At that point, Kelsey expressed their gratitude, stating, “The NHS has been extraordinarily supportive towards my family, keeping Kennedy alive.

Kelsey was 12 years old when her mother gave birth to Kennedy and her twin brother Karter.

It quickly became apparent that both infants were not developing as expected, resulting in a diagnosis of spinal muscular atrophy for both.

Four months later, Karter passed away due to his illness, leaving it to Kelsey’s mom to inform the older siblings about this sad event.

Kennedy primarily conveys through grunts, laughter, or tears; her closest relatives and caregivers alone can decipher her intentions.
