Buckle your seatbelts. Another “Top Gun” movie is in the works.
Paramount Pictures co-chair Josh Greenstein announced on Thursday that a follow-up to the hit movie “Top Gun: Maverick” is being planned. The new film will once again star Tom Cruise and be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The news was shared at CinemaCon, a major movie industry event held in Las Vegas.
The original “Top Gun” movie was released in 1986. Fans waited over three decades for the sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick,” which premiered in June 2022 and quickly became a huge success in theaters.
Just after the dust settled on the Paramount Global and Skydance Media merger this August, I heard from David Ellison, the new head of Paramount Skydance. He laid out his vision for the future, and it’s clear he’s banking on established hits. He specifically mentioned wanting to expand franchises like “Top Gun,” “Star Trek,” and “Yellowstone.” What really stood out, though, was his clear enthusiasm for Tom Cruise – he had nothing but praise for the guy.
