The official song for the 2025 League of Legends World Championship has been released! “Sacrifice” by G.E.M. celebrates 15 years of the tournament, and the song’s music video is packed with memorable moments from the past. We’ve picked out five of our favorite hidden references – did we include yours?
Top five references and easter eggs in the Worlds 2025 song Sacrifice music video
Okay, so the new Worlds 2025 anthem music video, ‘The Sacrifice’ featuring G.E.M., is *packed* with little nods to LoL Esports history. As someone who’s been watching for a while, I noticed a ton of cool details. I’ve put together a list of some of my favorites, but I’m curious – did I miss your best moment?
Honorable mention: NRG sends G2 home

After FlyQuest’s Bwipo was removed from the Worlds 2025 promotional video, no North American players are featured. The video does include a brief clip at the end recognizing NRG’s victory against G2 Esports during the 2023 Worlds Swiss Stage.
While this loss wasn’t instantly the end for G2, it forced them into a crucial match against Bilibili Gaming, who would eventually reach the semifinals.
GAM CEO TK Nguyen

TK Nguyen is a hugely popular figure at the League of Legends World Championship. He’s known for his infectious energy and unwavering support of GAM Esports whenever they compete on the international stage, always bringing a positive atmosphere.

Okay, so at the very end of the highlight reel – you know, the one showing Fnatic winning and Shushei lifting the Summoner’s Cup – I spotted something really cool. For just a split second, you can see TK Nguyen in the background! Apparently, that exact shot is a nod to a photo taken back at Worlds 2022. It was a nice little tribute, honestly.
TheShy 1v5 vs G2 in 2018
Sacrifice perfectly recreated a pivotal moment from the 2018 League of Legends World Championship semifinals: a dominant play by Invictus Gaming’s TheShy on Aatrox against G2 Esports. Around 21 minutes and 30 seconds into the third game, TheShy activated his ultimate ability, was briefly trapped by G2’s Perkz using Lissandra, but still managed to overwhelm the opposing team and dash the hopes of European fans.

Caps’ Sylas and Ruler’s Ashe – G2 vs Gen.G in Worlds 2020 Quarterfinals
The recreation also perfectly captures moments with Rasmus “Caps” Winther playing Sylas and Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk playing Ashe. During the second game of the 2020 Worlds quarterfinals, around the 28-minute mark, Ruler landed an Enchanted Crystal Arrow on Caps. He then quickly used Zhonya’s Hourglass to dodge a spear from Nidalee – a scene that was later featured in the music video for Sacrifice Worlds 2025.

He followed up with his powerful Ashe ultimate, successfully hitting Clid and bringing G2 to match point. This play was key to G2’s victory over Gen.G, but their success was short-lived as they lost to DAMWON Gaming in the semifinals. DAMWON Gaming ultimately won the tournament and claimed the championship title.
Levi’s Requiem for the hope of Vietnam – GAM vs TES in Worlds 2022 Group Stage
While many incredible plays happen at Worlds, it’s easy to overlook Đỗ “Levi” Duy Khánh’s performance on Karthus for GAM Esports. At a crucial moment, he single-handedly kept Vietnam’s chances alive.
During the group stage of the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, Top Esports was on the verge of destroying GAM’s base after eliminating their entire team. However, a brilliant play by Levi on his champion, Requiem, turned the tables, wiping out the TES team. This incredible moment led to one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, with GAM ultimately winning the game.

Faker shuffles Ruler – T1 vs JDG in Worlds 2022 Semifinal

During the 2022 Worlds Semifinals against Ruler and JD Gaming, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok wasn’t his usual dominant self – often called the “Unkillable Demon King.” Instead, he played a more defensive role, acting as a strong, unyielding barrier, much like the Great Wall of China.
Okay, so I was watching the game, and Ruler tried to Flash away from Faker’s Azir ultimate, but Faker *immediately* flashed right with him – it was insane! Even though the ultimate only hit Ruler’s Varus, that one play completely flipped the game around and let them start pushing for the win. It was crazy to watch, but ultimately T1 lost to DRX in a really close, five-game grand final.
There are still more hidden details to find in the music video for the Worlds 2025 song, Sacrifice! Take a look at the star patterns at the end and see if you can identify any of them.
