Top 3 moments during Roman Reigns's historic run

As a lifelong wrestling fan and someone who’s been following Roman Reigns since his early days in WWE, I can honestly say that I’ve been thoroughly entertained by his journey. Growing up with a football-loving father, I remember eagerly watching Roman play for the Vikings and Jaguars before he found his true calling in the squared circle.

Roman’s rise to fame as part of The Shield was electrifying, but it was his transformation into The Tribal Chief that truly captured my attention. His character development over the years has been nothing short of impressive, and I must admit, I find myself rooting for him even when he’s playing the villain.

One thing that stands out to me is his ability to make fans talk. Love him or hate him, Roman knows how to get a reaction, and that’s what makes great wrestling. His feud with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 was a classic example of that – a match filled with suspense and drama that kept me on the edge of my seat.

However, if I had to pick just one moment as Roman’s crowning achievement, it would be his 1,000+ day title reign. To see a wrestler hold the Universal Championship for such an extended period of time is rare and impressive, especially in today’s fast-paced WWE environment. While some may argue that it was too long or unfair, I can’t help but feel proud of Roman for achieving such a historic milestone.

All in all, Roman Reigns has proven himself to be one of the greatest wrestlers of our time. He’s not just a wrestler, he’s an icon, a leader, and a true showman. And when it comes down to it, that’s what makes him great – his ability to captivate audiences and keep us all talking about the Bloodline.

Until next time, this is Katrina signing off, and remember: if you don’t acknowledge Roman Reigns, you might just find yourself on the receiving end of a Superman Punch!

Joseph Anoa’i, better known as Roman Reigns, first stepped into a WWE ring in 2010. His initial appearance on television was on August 19, 2010, for FCW, where he wrestled as Roman Leakee in a 15-man Battle Royale.

Given his family background, it was expected that after a stint with football, Roman would venture into the world of wrestling. He played college football at Georgia Tech and had brief spells with the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL. His family’s legacy has been a significant part of one of the most impactful and enduring storylines in modern wrestling, as Roman assumed the roles of Tribal Chief, the Head of the Table, and eventually, the leader of the Bloodline.

It’s clear to see that Roman Reigns, a key member of The Shield alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose (now Jon Moxley), was often referred to as “The Big Dog.” However, his success in singles matches made some fans feel he was overly pushed into the spotlight. I, personally, have always been a fan since day one, but let’s move past that.

After taking a break due to his fight against leukemia, Roman made his comeback to WWE. His transformation was dramatic; he adopted the role of a villain, proudly representing his Samoan ancestry and asserting his authority over the roster. To further astonish fans, just two days before he claimed victory in the triple threat match against Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman at Payback in 2020, Roman joined forces with Paul Heyman, indicating a fresh approach to his career within WWE.

With each passing day, Roman’s persona increasingly reflects his role as the Anoa’i family leader, exhibiting a strong reliance on fear, ego, and behaviors that occasionally extended to his immediate family members as well.

Let’s count down three moments I considered to be some of his biggest moments as The Tribal Chief.

#3 Roman VS. Brock: Winner Takes All (WrestleMania 38)

On April 3, 2022, at WrestleMania 38, Roman Reigns squared off against Brock Lesnar in a unique bout where the winner would claim both the WWE Universal Championship and the WWE Championship. Their rivalry could be traced back to 2015, with Paul Heyman as their common manager, creating an intriguing dynamic. The question on everyone’s mind was who Paul Heyman would ultimately stand by. This match was filled with spears and suplexes, each competitor displaying raw power and skill. While Brock Lesnar exhibited immense strength, Roman Reigns showcased a ruthless cunning strategy that set them apart.

During this contest, at a certain moment, Paul appeared stuck between two opponents. He appeared to support both sides until he handed over the Universal title to Roman, which Roman later used to attack Brock. After numerous spears, final blows, and Superman punches, Roman defeated Brock, thereby earning the title of the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

During the match, Paul was in a difficult position as he supported both opponents. He gave the Universal title to Roman who then used it against Brock. After many moves like spears, final blows, and Superman punches, Roman won the match and became the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.

#2: Roman’s brutal beat down of Jey Uso at Clash of Champions (September 27, 2020)

In this confrontation, the tension between The Usos and Roman Reigns was evident as Roman challenged Jey for the Universal title. Before the fight began, Jey expressed his disappointment by saying “This doesn’t have to end like this.” As the match progressed, Roman mercilessly taunted Jey, both in front of the audience at home and the virtual crowd at the Thunderdome, making each moment more challenging for Jey. Despite our expectations, Jey fought valiantly, determined to secure a victory that was ultimately out of reach. Throughout the match, Roman repeatedly urged Jey to acknowledge him, but Jey remained steadfast in his refusal.

In the end, Jimmy, who had been away due to an injury, attempted to quit by signaling defeat, but Jey flatly refused. Roman persisted until Jimmy eventually conceded, at which point he said, “We’re family; what’s going on with you? You’re the leader. The Tribal Chief, just leave him alone.” This match bore a striking resemblance to Rocky 4, where Apollo was so severely injured that Rocky threw in the towel, but it came too late.

In this contest, Roman’s ruthless nature was evident, yet it underscored his relentless determination to maintain his dominant position, displaying a complete lack of regret.

# 1: Roman Reigns’ 1,000+ Day Title Reign (June 2023)

In May 2023, Roman Reigns will reach an incredible achievement of holding the Universal Championship for a thousand days. Although some wrestling fans were disappointed by this feat, I personally couldn’t be happier. He has defeated numerous opponents who are regarded as legends in their own right. It might have appeared to be an incorrect decision, but Roman’s title reign demonstrated his near-invincibility within the WWE.

Roman managed to keep his title for an impressive 1,316 days, making it the fourth-longest championship run in WWE history, and marking the longest stretch of title defense since 1988.

It was impressive to see The Usos as Roman’s allies, demonstrating the strength of a well-knit group. However, their alliance didn’t exactly blow me away; it was good but not particularly groundbreaking. Regardless of personal feelings towards him, it’s undeniable that Roman has sparked conversations among both wrestling enthusiasts and casual fans about the Bloodline, even encouraging people to recognize him. I’m eagerly anticipating what lies ahead for the original Tribal Chief and the Bloodline narrative.

Until Next time, this is Katrina signing off.
