Top 15 Mobile Game Publishers for January 2025

Story Highlights

  • Azur Games led the downloads chart with 106.5 million downloads, while Tencent Games dominated revenue with $637.9 million.
  • NetEase Games was in second place in revenue, while Dream Games closely followed with $148.3 million.
  • The Pokémon Company saw a revenue dip, likely due to a slowdown in Pokémon TCG Pocket’s early 2025 momentum.

The year 2025 saw major transformations in the mobile gaming industry, with established players retaining their dominance and fresh competitors making their mark. Azur Games remained unchallenged as the most downloaded mobile game publisher, while Tencent Games maintained its spot as the top earner. Newcomers also made their presence felt, and NetEase Games experienced a remarkable increase in revenue. Several other publishers also witnessed unexpected spikes in download numbers. Let’s delve deeper into the leading mobile game publishers for January 2025.

Best Mobile Game Publishers by Downloads for January 2025

2025’s start marked Azur Games reclaiming the top spot on the download charts, with an astounding 106.5 million downloads. Renowned for their diverse selection of hyper-casual and casual games, this publisher has continued to captivate a wide mobile gaming audience with its consistent allure.

Behind them trailed BabyBus, boasting an impressive 78.4 million downloads, as it maintains its popularity in the children’s educational games market and boasts a substantial YouTube following. SayGames, ranking third, demonstrated significant strength with 71.4 million downloads.

In the top five rankings, we find Supersonic Studios (with 69.7 million downloads) and Voodoo (with 67.3 million), both popular for their captivating, user-friendly games that appeal to a global audience of casual gamers. Worthy of mention is Outfit7, the team behind the Talking Tom series, which secured sixth place with an impressive 56.5 million downloads, continuing its success with entertaining franchises.

As a gaming enthusiast, I was taken aback when Tencent, known for its global powerhouse of popular games, only managed to rank at number 11 with a total of 32.1 million downloads. This figure fell short of my expectations given their strong portfolio. On the other hand, Hungry Studio, Homa, Garena International, and FreePlay Inc. claimed the final four spots in the top 15.

Best Mobile Game Publishers by Revenue for January 2025

As a passionate follower, I can’t help but marvel at the tale unfolding when we shift our focus from download numbers to financial dominance, as portrayed by revenue. In the chilly month of January 2025, it was Tencent Games that reigned supreme yet again, with an awe-inspiring revenue of approximately $637.9 million. This colossal figure was propelled by heavyweight games such as Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile.

In the year under discussion, NetEase Games significantly improved their position, moving up to second place with an earnings of approximately $148.4 million – a significant jump from their third-place finish in the previous year. Not far behind was Dream Games, who managed to earn nearly the same amount, around $148.3 million, primarily due to the sustained popularity of their game, “Royal Match”. Interestingly, despite leading in downloads by a considerable margin, Azur Games failed to make it into the top 15 earnings list for the year.

FunFly Private Limited and Playrix both showed comparable earnings of approximately $141.3 million each, given their significant roles within the puzzle and casual gaming sectors. Century Games came in sixth place with an impressive $141 million in revenue, boosted by the remarkable success of its 4x strategy game, Whiteout Survival.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, it’s interesting to note that The Pokémon Company, which was previously on fire, slid a bit to the 14th spot with earnings of around $56.4 million. This is quite a drop compared to a few months back. It seems like the massive launch of Pokémon TCG Pocket towards the end of 2024 might have cooled down a tad in early 2025. But hey, there are exciting updates and events coming up that could reignite the passion!

Notable brands were also represented. In the end, Scopely, King, and Roblox secured spots in the top 10, while Moon Active, Supercell, and Bandai Namco didn’t quite make it, but still managed to rank within the top 15. The question remains whether this trend will persist next month or if we’ll see more emerging publishers breaking through.
