Would you seize the opportunity to resurrect a character from your beloved TV series or film if given the chance? Interestingly, Tony Hale and D’Arcy Carden shared their choices for this hypothetical scenario, mentioning iconic characters they’d be keen to revive.
During my conversation with the duo regarding their upcoming movie titled “Sketch,” set to premiere on August 6th within the 2025 film lineup, I found myself intrigued. The story revolves around a young girl’s sketches, which, when thrown into a magical lake, spring to life and create chaos. This concept sparked my imagination, naturally leading me to inquire about the prospect of incorporating some of their well-known characters from their past into this lively world.

Who D’Arcy Carden Would And Would Not Sketch To Life
In the movie titled “Sketch,” Amber (portrayed by Bianca Belle) has a unique ability: whatever she draws in her notebook springs to life once tossed into a magical lake. This opens up numerous possibilities. Recently, I had the opportunity to chat with D’Arcy Carden and asked which character from her previous roles she’d most want to bring to real life if given the chance. Unsurprisingly, her response linked back to one of her popular TV series, “The Good Place.
An additional delight is found in the fact that her subsequent response – the individual she wouldn’t recreate in real life – hails from “The Good Place” as well.
As a fan, I must say, I find myself drawn to the idea of capturing the essence of Janet through my sketchbook. The Good Janet, whose kindness and compassion have touched us all, would be an absolute joy to portray. On the other hand, Bad Janet – who brings no positivity – is best left out of our lives entirely. Let’s keep her absence intact.
In the series known as The Good Place, Janet is one of the characters. Within this show’s ensemble, D’Arcy Carden depicts Good Janet, who serves as a knowledgeable guide for The Good Place. She assumes various forms of Janet, including “Bad Janet,” which is a malicious version of Janet from the Bad Place. Indeed, she causes quite a ruckus in society.

Who Tony Hale Would And Would Not Sketch To Life
Upon asking Tony Hale the very same question, his response seemed particularly delightful to me, as it references one of my cherished films and television series.
It sounds appealing to me to have a face-to-face encounter with Forky…as he’s brimming with energy and curiosity, which I find captivating.
Forky is a character introduced in the Toy Story films, particularly the fourth one released in 2019. He was a unique toy made from Bonnie’s imagination. Unusually, Forky didn’t consider himself as a toy and grappled with an identity crisis, which made viewers instantly endear themselves to him.
Being a huge fan of Pixar films, especially eagerly anticipating the release of Toy Story 5, I firmly believe that Forky is an excellent choice. However, Hale’s suggestion for whom he would retain from the past resonates deeply as well, it’s quite compelling too.
I’m contemplating, there are many (unpleasant) options available… I don’t necessarily dislike them, but I believe it wouldn’t be beneficial for them to return. Buster Bluth doesn’t need to make a comeback. Given his constant trauma and exhaustion, he deserves some rest.”
The paraphrased version aims to maintain the original meaning while using more natural and easy-to-read language, as well as addressing the context of Buster Bluth being a character from the TV show “Arrested Development” who frequently experiences stress and hardship.
For a long time, Tony Hale was a significant cast member on the television series Arrested Development, portraying the character Buster Bluth. Buster was a fearful individual who frequently suffered from panic attacks and endured considerable mental turmoil. It’s somewhat heartwarming that Hale seems to prefer granting Buster some peace rather than reviving him to relive all that trauma once more.
Although these characters won’t miraculously return to life anytime soon, you have the opportunity to catch Hale and Carden on the big screen when the movie “Sketch” premieres. In this film, they will face monsters that have been brought to life from a young girl’s sketchbook. You’ll also get a glimpse of how a simple crayon drawing can become truly terrifying in real life.
