Tony Armstrong's shock career move after leaving ABC Breakfast News as rumours emerge he will replace veteran Seven newsreader

As a devoted fan, I can hardly contain my excitement at the potential of Tony Armstrong gracing our screens once again, this time as the new sport presenter for Channel Seven! With his charisma and charm, he’s been a staple on ABC News Breakfast for the past three years, and now it seems he’s ready to take on a new challenge.

It’s been circulating that Tony Armstrong might take over from an established Channel Seven newsreader, following his departure from ABC News Breakfast.

35-year-old television personality has just resigned from his sports news reporting position at ABC News Breakfast following a tenure of three years. He made his final appearance on the airwaves this past Friday.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been thrilled by his hints about an upcoming venture with ABC, but lately, whispers are circulating that he might be planning collaborations with yet another broadcasting platform as well.

I’ve picked up some buzz suggesting that I might be stepping into Tim Watson’s shoes for the sports segment on 7News Melbourne. This tidbit comes from TV Blackbox, it seems.

63-year-old sports presenter Tim is said to be preparing to retire from the network following a 13-year tenure, and it seems he will pass on his evening sports segment during Melbourne’s 6 pm news.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve long believed Rebecca Maddern to be the prime candidate for the coveted position. However, whispers abound suggesting that Tony may also be vying for this prestigious role.

Last month on his Triple M radio program, Luke Darcy inadvertently disclosed his friend Tim’s anticipated exit, which had been a subject of much conjecture. However, it turned out that Seven network was still maintaining secrecy about the move.

‘I am going to drop another little bomb here and that is… Tim “Whispy” Watson is about to finish up at the Seven Network,’ the AFL star-turned-radio host told his listeners.

A short while later, he started hastily retracting his statements when his colleagues questioned if he knew his departure would be announced on the program.

Luke admitted, “Perhaps that was a private discussion. Let’s disregard that segment… let’s ignore it… we’ll focus on what comes next instead.

In about four weeks, it’s thought that Tony’s agreement with ABC will come to an end. However, there are rumors that he might get a prime-time hosting position with the same network in the following year.

Last month, when Tony declared his departure from ABC News Breakfast, he verified that he’ll be engaged in a new venture with the ABC next year without disclosing specifics about the nature of his upcoming role.

The ex-Sydney Swans star hinted cryptically, suggesting that there’s an upcoming project due early in the next year, but he’s been sworn to secrecy and can’t reveal the details just yet.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Seven and Tony’s representatives for comment.

Tony’s final day at ABC News Breakfast was slightly overshadowed due to allegations that he did voiceover work for the NRMA insurance company, which conflicted with his duties on the program.

On the evening of Monday, Janine Perrett unveiled Tony’s secret endeavor during Media Watch, disclosing that he has been lending his voice to NRMA Insurance advertisements since July.

Media Watch’s temporary host found it astonishing that Tony hadn’t obtained approval from the broadcasting company prior to securing his new position.

According to the ABC’s Editorial Policy, a high-profile presenter isn’t prohibited from doing external work, but such activities are viewed as carrying a very high level of risk.

The ABC stated that the voiceover work was carried out unknowingly, stemming from a misunderstanding between ABC and Tony’s outside representative.

The announcer stated that everyone at ABC was given a copy of the rules for external projects and told they must comply with them. Notably, Tony, who holds a significant role there, is fully backed by the company.

Speaking directly about the recent uproar, I must confess that last week was quite the peculiar whirlwind for me as I wrapped up my final ABC Breakfast News appearance on Friday.

He conveyed a blend of emotions. His physical gestures hinted at his discomfort when discussing personal matters, even though his profession often requires him to be on camera.

‘It’s been such a whirlwind three years. Believe it or not, I was nervous when I started.

‘It didn’t last long. But yeah, that wasn’t all that long ago. And yeah, News Breakfast has given me everything, really. It’s given me… It’s given me a joy ride!

I couldn’t have achieved the situation I find myself in now if not for being able to leave on my own accord and move forward into whatever comes next.

I haven’t quite figured out what it is just yet, but I’m incredibly grateful to all those who watched and to everyone who offered such kind words during this past week, especially.

‘It’s been a funny old week. But yeah, people have been really, really nice to me.’
