Toni Collette said that she would be more than happy to film another season of Wayward.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Collette shared that she’s eager to return for a second season of Wayward and has already talked with the show’s creator, Mae Martin, about possible storylines and future episodes. She confirmed her willingness to participate in the hit Netflix series and discussed potential plots with Martin.
Collette acknowledged that a second season of Wayward seems unlikely, but she hasn’t given up hope. She’d be eager to return as Evelyn Wade if the show ever gets another chance.
ScreenRant asked Toni if there was any chance of continuing the show Wayward, noting that while it was originally intended as a limited series, Mae Martin had hinted at potential for more stories. They were curious if Toni would be open to exploring that possibility.
Oh my gosh, working with Mae was incredible – we had such a blast! I adore her, and we’ve even chatted about where the story could go. Honestly, I thought the project was dead in the water, but now I’m starting to think there might be a chance we could revisit it. I’d jump at the opportunity, absolutely!
Wayward is a suspenseful mystery thriller on Netflix, taking place in the unsettling town of Tall Pines, Vermont. The story revolves around Tall Pines Academy, a school for troubled teenagers that feels more like a dangerous cult. When a new police officer, Alex, and his pregnant wife, Laura, arrive in town, he starts to reveal hidden and disturbing truths about Laura’s past and the academy itself.
Evelyn, played by Collette, created and runs Tall Pines Academy. She initially comes across as friendly and welcoming, but this is just a facade. Beneath the surface, she’s actually harsh and relentless, and she’ll do anything to safeguard the school’s reputation.
Netflix’s creator, Martin, revealed they wrote the character of Evelyn specifically with Toni Collette in mind. He described it as a dream come true to have her on board, calling her their top pick. He explained that Collette is one of the rare actors who perfectly understands comedic timing, delivering both dry humor and genuinely frightening performances, and that she commands attention whenever she’s on screen.
Wayward season 1 is available to stream now on Netflix.
