Toni Collette and Andrea Riseborough Reveal Their Favorite Christmas Movies

Toni Collette and Andrea Riseborough shared their favorite Christmas films of all time.

While promoting their new movie, Goodbye June, Collette and Riseborough shared their favorite holiday films with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley. They both agreed that The Polar Express and The Muppet Christmas Carol are among the most heartwarming Christmas classics.

Collette admitted, “I really do love The Polar Express.” This 2004 animated film tells the story of a boy who takes a magical train ride to the North Pole on Christmas Eve, along with other children. Throughout their journey, they face difficulties and learn to believe in Santa Claus again. Robert Zemeckis directed the film, which is based on the children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. The movie features Tom Hanks in multiple roles – as the adult version of the main character, his father, the train conductor, a hobo, Ebenezer Scrooge, and Santa Claus – alongside Josh Hutcherson, Nona Gaye, and Peter Scolari.

Riseborough revealed that The Muppet Christmas Carol from 1992 is her all-time favorite movie. She recently re-watched it on film at the Tyneside Cinema in northeast England and was struck by how stunning the production design was. “I love Muppet’s Christmas Carol, and seeing it projected on film was just gorgeous,” she said.

Directed by Brian Henson, The Muppet Christmas Carol is a musical retelling of the beloved Charles Dickens story. The film centers on Ebenezer Scrooge, played by Michael Caine, and his encounters with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future on Christmas Eve. Familiar Muppet characters, including Kermit the Frog as Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy, and Gonzo, who narrates the story, also star in the movie.

Directed by Kate Winslet, Goodbye June is a Christmas-set family drama starring Helen Mirren as June, a woman nearing the end of her life. Her four grown children come to visit her before Christmas, and their reunion brings old family tensions to the surface. They must navigate their complicated relationships with each other and with their father (Timothy Spall) as they come to terms with their mother’s illness.

Goodbye June is available to stream now on Netflix.
