Tommy Lee Jones tried to gain conservatorship for daughter Victoria two years before tragic death aged 31

More details have surfaced about the heartbreaking death of Tommy Lee Jones’s daughter, Victoria, who passed away on New Year’s Day. Her father had been worried about her health for some time.

The actor known for Men in Black asked the court to grant him temporary legal guardianship of his daughter two years before he passed away.

Court records reviewed by the Daily Mail show that 79-year-old David Jones filed a legal request on August 7, 2023, to become the conservator of his 31-year-old daughter.

The Marin County Superior Court confirmed to the Daily Mail that Tommy filed in Probate Court.

The reasons for filing aren’t publicly available, and details from medical records and related statements are being kept private.

When the paperwork was filed, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Victoria was in a Greenbrae hospital on a 14-day psychiatric hold. Officials had determined she might be a risk to herself or others.

The publication also mentioned that Tommy’s legal request stated his daughter was challenging the restrictions and asked the court-appointed conservator to move her directly into a drug rehabilitation program as soon as she was released.

Following a judge’s approval, Tommy then asked the court to drop the case, according to reports.

The docket shows the judge officially terminated the conservatorship on December 18, 2023.

Tommy Lee Jones’s representatives haven’t yet responded to inquiries from the Daily Mail about the details of the new conservatorship.

These new details emerged only a week after concerning photos of the actor appeared – his first time being seen in public since the heartbreaking loss of his daughter.

On New Year’s Day, Victoria Jones was discovered unconscious on the 14th floor of the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco by another guest.

Authorities haven’t yet determined the official cause of death. However, some reports suggest a possible overdose, given the individual’s past struggles with alleged cocaine and alcohol use.

Recent photos published by the Daily Mail show actor Tommy Lee Jones appearing frail and needing assistance from his wife, Dawn Laurel-Jones, while walking with a limp in San Antonio, Texas.

An insider commented on the Men in Black star’s solemn demeanor: ‘He is not himself right now.’

According to a source, Tommy is devastated by the loss of his child. Despite usually being strong and composed, he’s been deeply affected by the tragedy.

After Victoria’s death, concerning information about her last few months has come to light, including interactions she had with the police.

The Daily Mail obtained a June mugshot showing what appears to be a bruise under her eye.

In 2025, she was arrested twice. The first arrest occurred in April when police in Napa Valley performed a welfare check and then charged her with DUI, drug possession, and resisting officers.

During the booking process, a plastic bag with a white powder – suspected to be cocaine – was discovered in her pocket, according to court records.

She pleaded not guilty and had been scheduled to appear in court later this month.

In June, Victoria was arrested once more after a domestic disturbance at the Carneros Resort and Spa in Napa, where rooms cost about $500 a night.

Court documents reveal she was also accused of elder abuse, but she denied the charges in court.

Victoria was found at the Fairmont Hotel after a guest thought she seemed drunk and told the staff.

It was awful. We tried everything we could – started CPR immediately and called 911. When we called, we had to explain it was a serious overdose, and I remember telling the operator about the person’s skin color changing, because that’s how bad it was. We were really worried.

According to a San Francisco Police Department spokesperson, officers responded to a hotel on the 900 block of Mason Street around 3:14 a.m. on January 1, 2026, after receiving a report of a death.

When officers arrived, they found paramedics already at the scene who confirmed that a woman had died. The Medical Examiner then investigated the circumstances.

Victoria was born in 1991 and began her acting career at age 11 with a brief appearance in her father’s film, Men in Black II (2002).

In 2005, she guest-starred on One Tree Hill and also appeared in the film The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, which was directed by her father.

Even after she stopped acting professionally, Victoria would sometimes accompany Tommy to events, like the 2017 premieres of ‘Just Getting Started’ and at the Tokyo International Film Festival that same year.

In a 2006 interview, director Tommy spoke highly of Victoria after working with her on a film, noting she was a talented actress and fluent in Spanish.

The actor won his only Oscar in 1994 for The Fugitive, which he starred in alongside Harrison Ford.
