Although the Tomb Raider series has many great games, Tomb Raider: Underworld is a standout title for many fans. It’s known for its imaginative level design, compelling story, and immersive atmosphere, all of which still feel fantastic today. A remaster of this game would be especially welcome, given the long wait for a new Tomb Raider installment.
While it’s not the complete overhaul some fans wanted, this recent remaster is still a fantastic way to experience Lara Croft’s original adventure.
Xenia Canary, the Xbox 360 emulator for PC, recently received a significant update. As Reddit user Internal-Night-6691 pointed out, these updates to how the emulator handles graphics greatly improve performance and playability, especially for the game Tomb Raider Underworld and its downloadable content.
While the game initially has some visual hiccups when starting a new level, these quickly resolve, and the performance ultimately surpasses what you’d get on the original console.
Even if this fan-made remaster isn’t flawless and occasionally pulls you out of the game, it’s still impressive. It’s the best we have right now for a remastered version that includes the important story expansions from Tomb Raider: Underworld, which were missing from the recent PC release.
Honestly, the old emulated version was a nightmare – it would just freeze up for several seconds whenever anything new happened on screen or you moved to a new area. But this new update? It’s a huge improvement! It runs so much smoother on way more computers, and thankfully, it doesn’t have the same performance issues or clunky controls that the original PC version had.
With a remastered version of the original Tomb Raider and a new game, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, continuing the story of Tomb Raider: Underworld, it’s a great time to revisit the Underworld DLC on PC to get ready for what’s coming next.
It’s still unclear exactly how the story and world of Tomb Raider: Catalyst will connect to the events of Tomb Raider: Underworld when it comes out. But until then, fans have plenty of other games and projects to enjoy that capture the spirit of exploration from the original Tomb Raider series.
