Tomb Raider Studio Crystal Dynamics Has Suffered a Round of Layoffs
Crystal Dynamics, responsible for developing the contemporary Tomb Raider series starting from Tomb Raider Legend, recently made a tough choice and announced job cuts.
As reported by the developer, seventeen “skilled individuals” have been released from their positions, and it’s uncertain which teams are impacted by these layoffs. At present, Crystal Dynamics is engaged in developing the “Perfect Dark reboot” in collaboration with Xbox studio The Initiative, as well as a new “Tomb Raider” installment, said to be an open-world game set in India.
This morning, Crystal Dynamics announced that they are letting go of 17 skilled team members. The company did not take this decision lightly, but felt it was necessary to adjust their current workforce in order to align with their future goals and studio success. It’s important to note that this decision is not a reflection on the commitment or talent of those affected.
The studio mentions it’s helping employees affected by the layoffs through “transition aid and job opportunities search,” and reiterates its dedication to “continually innovating in game creation.” Furthermore, it clarifies that this change doesn’t affect the ongoing project schedules.
Since it’s over six years since Lara Croft was last seen in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, maybe now is the right moment for her much-anticipated comeback as an adventurer.
