Tom Selleck’s Heartbreak: Betrayed by Blue Bloods Co-Star Donnie Wahlberg!
As a loyal admirer and follower of Tom Selleck’s career, I can imagine that he might feel a sense of betrayal upon learning about Donnie Wahlberg‘s acquisition of his own Blue Bloods spin-off, Boston Blue.
The pair starred as father-son characters Frank and Danny Reagan on a CBS series for 14 years. Openly voicing his displeasure, Selleck spoke about the show’s termination.
Currently, RadarOnline claims that Selleck felt enraged upon discovering his ex-colleague had secured a leading role in a new production. A source described Wahlberg, aged 55, pursuing the show as a significant act of betrayal and an end to their friendship.
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives for Selleck and Wahlberg for comment.
80-year-old Selleck is said to have put up a valiant struggle to prevent the cancellation of Blue Bloods, a battle he waged until its conclusion only three months ago.
According to a source, this action by Danny is perceived as an immense act of disloyalty. The Reagans have always resided in New York City, so it’s surprising that Danny has suddenly decided to relocate to Boston. Tom Selleck is extremely upset, feeling as though the rest of the cast, including the lead actor, are being discarded in this move.
It should noted, however, that Wahlberg himself hails from Boston.
Tom had taken on a mentor-like role for Donnie, guiding him in his acting, but lately, he discovered that Donnie was keeping secrets from him. This revelation has left Tom feeling deeply hurt and disappointed.
‘He feels a sense of betrayal and is furious over the news.’
As a devoted admirer, I must share that rumors suggest I had the power to prevent the spin-off’s creation, yet I found myself drawn more towards financial compensation rather than upholding loyalty towards Mr. Selleck.
Last year Wahlberg told Fox News he refers to Selleck as ‘dad.’
He shared with the media that Tom Selleck is like his father to him. Initially, during the first couple of seasons, Selleck seemed a bit taken aback by this, addressing him as ‘Donnie’. However, over time, their bond has grown significantly, and now he refers to him casually as just ‘we’ve gotten so close.’
Selleck, he said, also calls him ‘son.’
He said casually, “Hey, how are you doing today, son?” Wahlberg added. It feels like we’ve grown into a genuine family, and it will be tough not to be around them anymore once the filming ends, but I’m confident we’ll remain close even when the cameras aren’t running.
In an interview with TV Insider back in 2024, Selleck expressed his displeasure following the cancellation of his long-running TV police series, Blue Bloods.

I’ve been feeling a bit irritated lately. Over the past eight episodes, I’ve found myself more interested in discussing the show’s continued success rather than the ending of ‘Blue Bloods’.
He stated that our show ranked 6th among the Top 100 Shows in 2023-2024 when excluding the three sports shows focused on football, placing us at number 9 overall.
He mentioned, “I feel frustrated because the show was often overlooked since it was successful right from the start.
He went on to say, ‘I won’t become that grumpy old man yelling, “Stay off my grass!” I don’t subscribe to holding grudges. However, if you were to tell the television network something like, “Here’s a show you can air in your worst time slot, and it will ensure you win Friday nights for the next 15 years,” it would be incredibly hard to take that seriously.’
‘So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out.’

After the weekend when we filmed the last episode, I mentioned, “I need to go to bed early tonight as I have lines to record tomorrow.” However, it turned out there was no tomorrow. It seems the process will simply take some time.
After spending 14 years traveling between California and the East Coast for his TV show, Selleck returned to his ranch in California with his wife Jillie Mack. CBS announced that the series would conclude at the end of 2023, and its final episode aired in December 2024.
Selleck openly expressed his displeasure about the conclusion of Blue Bloods, and following the announcement last year that production would cease, he expressed hope during a CBS Sunday Morning interview that they would reconsider their decision.
Previously recognized for his roles in Magnum P.I. and Friends, Selleck gained an enormous following through his portrayal of Frank Reagan, a fictitious NYPD commissioner, on the series Blue Bloods.
Since September 2010, he’s been working alongside Bridget Moynahan and Will Estes in a series. When it was announced the show would be cancelled, he predicted fans would respond with strong disappointment or anger.
He told TV Insider that CBS might discover many individuals are reluctant to part ways with it, he added.

“The show is drawing larger crowds than before, and I believe attendance figures will rise even further due to the heightened curiosity this year. Rest assured, we still have plenty of fresh concepts up our sleeves.
Wahlberg’s new show was announced last month.
In the upcoming series, Danny, played by Donnie Wahlberg, assumes a role within the Boston Police Department – a move that aligns with his real-life roots, as suggested in a CBS press statement.
In Beantown, I’ll be partnering with Lena Peters, an esteemed figure hailing from one of Boston’s most respected law enforcement dynasties.
The show is likely to premiere on CBS during the 2025-2026 television season, but a precise release date has yet to be announced.
