Tom Read Wilson’s father wasn’t his mother’s teacher at school: I’m A Celeb star’s parents say their son was ‘factually incorrect’ about their relationship on 8 out of 10 Cats

Tom Read Wilson, a contestant on ‘I’m A Celebrity,’ said his parents met when his father taught at his mother’s school, and she was 18. However, his parents have said this story isn’t true.

The reality TV star revealed a funny story about how his parents first met while appearing on the show 8 Out Of 10 Cats.

Tom, 39, shared that his parents, Crispin and Juliette, met when he was about three years old. His father was a teacher and his mother was one of his students at the time.

Okay, so everyone thought Tom’s version of events was the truth, but his parents just came forward and completely debunked it! They’re saying everything he said was just… wrong. Seriously, factually incorrect! I can’t believe it. It’s like everything I thought I knew is flipped on its head, and honestly, it’s a little devastating, but I need to know the real story now!

They clarified that the celebrity’s mother didn’t attend Bradfield College, where his father was a teacher.

Actually, Juliette never went to school there, but she did live on the campus while growing up. She didn’t meet Crispin until she was twenty years old.

Crispin explained the situation, stating he used to teach English at Bradfield College. Tom’s grandfather was a French teacher at the same school. Although Tom didn’t attend Bradfield College as a student, he did grow up living in a house on the school grounds.

His mother, Juliette, didn’t attend school there herself, but she grew up living on the campus. After she turned twenty and started college, she and I began a relationship.

‘In May 1986 we married and in November 1986 Tom was born.’

The misunderstanding started when a past episode of the show resurfaced, revealing where Tom first told the story.

Tom shared on the show 8 Out Of 10 Cats in 2024 that he became who he is today because his father was an English teacher.

My grandfather, on my mother’s side, was a teacher at a school where it wasn’t uncommon for older female teachers to date the younger male teachers.

Shocked Rob Beckett interjected: ‘So your dad was a teacher there and your mum was a child there?’

‘Well she was 18, coming of age. He was 16 years her senior,’ reasoned Tom.

Host Jimmy Carr then clarified: ‘He was 34 and she was 18.’

Nodding his head Tom agreed as he added: ‘Yes. I never really thought about it.’

Tom’s father mentioned that Tom will also set the record straight after he finishes on the show, having done well in the jungle.

His parents have since separated and his dad went on to remarry.

Tom has spoken about his close relationship with his parents, despite the fact that they are now divorced and his father has remarried. He describes his mother as a French teacher with a lively and playful personality.

When Aitch asked where his unique slang comes from, the celebrity explained that he learned it from his father.

He described how the man, an English teacher, frequently wove details of his life into stories. While admitting he wasn’t a poet himself, he appreciated the beautiful, musical quality of the man’s writing.

Tom’s mother noticed his unique voice when she landed at the airport in Australia on Tuesday.

She told the Daily Mail: ‘He’s very articulate. He was born with a dictionary in his mouth.

He clearly inherited his talent for language from his father, who was an English teacher. It’s a trait I didn’t pass on to him, though.

He’s always been a good person, and that’s wonderful. I don’t always follow what he’s saying, but overall, it’s a positive thing.

Viewers were surprised during Monday night’s show when Tom suddenly started speaking with a completely new voice.

When Lisa Riley inquired about Tom’s love life, Tom admitted he wasn’t having much luck, joking that he could meet men, but struggled to maintain relationships.

This prompted Jack Osbourne, 40, to quip: ‘Wait, Tom, you’re gay?’

Tom playfully referred to himself as very masculine, then pretended to flirt with Kelly Brook as a demonstration of this ‘tougher’ persona.

Kelly Brook playfully asked what kind of women he usually goes for, and he replied with a low, suggestive voice that she definitely matched what he looks for.

He exclaimed, “You’re exactly what we’re looking for, you really are!” which surprised the other contestants.

Later, while still playing the role for the cameras in the Bush Telegraph, Tom admitted that pretending to be the sophisticated ‘Tom’ character was tiring. He said he much preferred just being himself and relaxing.

Tom suddenly changed his voice, returning to his normal tone, and said, “Oh God, what’s wrong with me?”

Viewers reacted to the scenes on social media, with many expressing confusion over who was real. One person wrote, ‘Tom’s voice is so convincing, it’s fooled the whole country!’

Someone else commented it was difficult to figure out which voice actually belonged to Tom. Another person realized Tom was the one using the high-pitched voice.

Yet another fan noted how they couldn’t ‘tell if that’s Tom’s real voice or an accent’.

Celebs Go Dating colleague Anna Williamson has previously confirmed the truth about his voice.

People always ask if Tom Read Wilson really talks the way he does on television. He confirmed that he absolutely does! While he’s a trained actor, he explained that his manner of speaking isn’t a performance – it’s just how he naturally talks.
