A high-profile, dystopian action-packed series featuring Tom Hiddleston has recently secured a new streaming platform for viewers in the UK.
The story of “High-Rise,” as depicted in JG Ballard’s 1975 novel, unfolds within a prestigious high-rise building situated in the heart of London.
In the United Kingdom, the latest movie directed by Ben Wheatley is now streaming on Prime Video. It can be accessed by current subscribers or individuals who choose to sign up for a complimentary 30-day trial.
Debuted in 2015, the film traces the journey of Dr. Robert Laing (Hiddleston) who moves into the towering building following his sister’s demise. As he gets acquainted with its inhabitants, a class divide is apparent among the stylish high-floor apartments and more economical lower-floor flats.
Since the newly moved-in neighbors seldom venture away from their tower, it creates an intense, unstable atmosphere within the building, with underlying tension simmering beneath the surface.
In addition to the main characters, Sienna Miller portrays Charlotte Melville, a lady who forms a romantic bond with Robert. Toby, her son, perceives Robert as something more akin to a father figure.
Furthermore, Luke Evans and Elisabeth Moss take on the roles of Richard and Helen Wilder, a married pair, while Jeremy Irons portrays Anthony Royal, the esteemed architect of the high-rise building, and Keeley Hawes plays his spouse Ann.
High-Rise received mostly positive reviews, with a critic score of 60% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The 1970s-inspired setting drew positive comments from critics, although they generally agreed that the movie didn’t fully match the greatness of its original material. However, it was still lauded for delivering an engaging, well-performed, and intellectually stimulating portrayal of its contemporary socioeconomic issues.
IGN rated the movie 7 out of 10, describing it as an “engrossingly grim and unsettling rendition” of one of J.G. Ballard’s finest works.
