Tom Hardy’s Spy Rom-Com Finds New Home

13 years ago, I found myself going head-to-head with Chris Pine in the romantic action-comedy “This Means War.” Fast forward to today, and he’s battling it out in the gritty world of organized crime in the highly anticipated drama “MobLand.” On May 1, both movies will be available for streaming on Max.

2012’s movie titled “This Means War” is classified as a romantic spy comedy. In this film, two CIA agents named Tuck Hansen (played by Hardy) and Franklin “FDR” Foster (portrayed by Pine), who are close friends, find themselves in a predicament when they discover they’ve both been dating the same woman, Lauren (Witherspoon). The director of this movie is McG, known for his work on “Terminator Salvation,” and it was written by Timothy Dowling (“Pixels”), Simon Kinberg (“Star Wars: Rebels, X-Men: Apocalypse”), and Marcus Gautesen.

After hitting theaters, the movie titled This Means War garnered around $156.5 million globally, surpassing its production cost of $65 million and thus achieving a moderate box office victory. However, it received primarily unfavorable reviews with a 25% critic rating and a 56% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet, some spectators admired the chemistry between the main characters, which led to more positive feedback from the general public.

Hardy Is Currently Starring in MobLand

In the role of street-wise character Harry Da Souza, Hardy appears alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren in the series “MobLand.” When it debuted on March 30, it became the biggest global launch for a series on the streaming platform. On its premiere day alone, “MobLand” drew an impressive 2.2 million views worldwide. Now, alongside shows like “1923” and another yet to be specified, “MobLand” ranks among the top three most successful launches on Paramount+.

The filmmaker this person collaborated with in the 2008 film “RocknRolla” is someone who made the process of reunion seem effortless. This individual stated that he didn’t realize it had been 17 years since their last project together, but when they spoke on the phone, it felt like no time had passed at all. He was already deeply involved in the project, making it feel as though they hadn’t been apart for so long. Consequently, they had a pleasant conversation and soon found themselves back on set, working together once more.

To date, both critics and viewers have shown positive reactions towards the series “MobLand”. It currently holds a 79% approval rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, along with an impressive 76% approval rating from audiences. You can catch up with it on Paramount+, as the next episode is set to air on April 28th.

This Means War debuts on Max on May 1.
