Tom Hardy’s hit crime drama has left fans with desperate question – and a show boss has responded
MobLand spoilers follow.
Jez Butterworth, a co-writer and executive producer on MobLand, has dished out some information regarding the final episode of this season, leaving viewers yearning for clarification.
The crime drama streaming on Paramount+ delves into the intricate relationships within the Harrigan crime clan based in London, headed by Conrad (Pierce Brosnan). As conflicts intensify, Harry Da Souza, a troubleshooter played by Tom Hardy, is summoned to avert a potential city-wide gang battle.

After airing its tenth and concluding episode titled ‘The Beast in Me’, viewers were taken aback when Harry got wounded by a kitchen knife wielded by his spouse, Jan (played by Joanne Froggatt), during a fierce disagreement.
After Harry sustained an injury, his future remained unclear as he sat in a chair. However, during an interview with the New York Post, Butterworth, one of the co-writers of the series alongside Ronan Bennett, hinted that the wound might not be lethal.
In essence, Butterworth stated that when considering the question, “Is Harry alive?”, the answer is affirmative because they won’t be ending his story. They have a deep affection for both the character of Harry and the actor Tom. This was their reasoning behind the creative choice for the movie’s concluding scene.
Throughout the story, it seemed to me that Harry’s recurring problem was his personal life. It added a lot of drama that after enduring so much over ten episodes, the unexpected event at the end caught him off guard.
As a seasoned gamer diving into the narrative of a complex game, I can relate to Butterworth, who’s penned tales for iconic franchises like James Bond and Indiana Jones. He elucidated some of the tumultuous aspects in Harry and Jan’s relationship, which he aptly labeled as “chaotic.
He expressed his viewpoint, saying, “Over time, the very traits that initially attract us in relationships can eventually become irritating.” [Harry] seems too carefree to him. In my opinion, what we’re observing between Harry and Jan is simply the strain of coping with such unpredictability, worry, and tension that comes with it.
The author noted that, just like many other families, their situation was often chaotic. He hinted that if there were a second season, it would delve deeper into the core aspect of the story: Harry’s relationships within his family.
The surprising conclusion to the show left many viewers speechless, with one spectator exclaiming on X: “Oh my goodness! How are they ending MobLand like this? If Harry doesn’t appear in season 2 or if we don’t get a second season at all, there will undoubtedly be uproars. I can guarantee it @paramountplus”.
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but express my shock over the latest episode of MobLand. “Harry Da Souza can’t possibly be gone #Mobland,” one viewer exclaimed, while another fan penned, “I just can’t believe it if Harry’s really bitten the dust in that last episode.” Intriguingly, someone posed the question, “Is Harry truly dead?” and another expressed their disbelief, stating they aren’t buying the idea that Harry met his demise for a second.
