Paramount+’s popular series is doing very well, and fans are eagerly awaiting the new season, which will arrive later this year. But if the show gets picked up for another season after that, its main star, Tom Hardy, won’t be returning.
Reports recently surfaced that the actor known for his role in Venom was let go from Season 3, several months after Season 2 finished filming. Now, it’s being revealed that the actor previously caused issues on set by reportedly dismissing advice from Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren and outright refusing to participate in filming.
Tom Hardy Refused to Come Out of Trailer on MobLand Season 2 Set
Word on the street, and confirmed by sources like The Hollywood Reporter, is that things got tense on set between the actor and the producers. Apparently, there were disagreements with folks like Jez Butterworth, an executive producer, and others over at 101 Studios – the company financing the film, MobLand. It sounds like a bit of a creative clash, to be honest.
Problems arose because the third season of MobLand hadn’t been officially approved yet. Production was planned to begin in September, but was still tentative.
According to a source, Tom Hardy would often stay inside his trailer for hours during the filming of Season 2. This caused delays, as the cast, including Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, were left waiting. The source believes this behavior was a deliberate attempt to assert dominance and could have damaged Hardy’s career.
Reports initially suggested the actor was trying to change lines and offer feedback on the script to both Martin Butterworth and the show’s creator, Ronan Bennett. However, Hardy himself hasn’t publicly responded to these claims.
Tom Hardy Clashed With Other Co-Stars
Tom Hardy has a history of on-set disagreements with fellow actors. He reportedly had a difficult relationship with Charlize Theron while filming Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. A director involved with the franchise later described Hardy and Theron as “very different performers.”
Let me tell you, working with this actor was…an experience. He possessed a real genius, but getting him to set was a challenge – the director actually had to convince him to come out of his trailer! Apparently, even back then, punctuality wasn’t his strong suit. Charlize, though, was a total pro – her background in dance clearly instilled a fantastic work ethic and discipline. She really kept things moving when our lead was… elusive.
Sir Patrick Stewart shared his experience working with Tom Hardy on the 2002 film Star Trek: Nemesis in his 2023 memoir, Making It So. He described Hardy, who played the villain Shinzon, as a quiet and reserved young actor. Stewart noted that Hardy didn’t socialize with the cast and rarely even acknowledged his co-stars.
MobLand Season 2 is expected to premiere on Paramount+ sometime this year.
