The Toy Story 5 box office is blasting off to infinity and beyond.
The highly anticipated Toy Story 5 came out in June 2026 and is the latest film in Pixar’s popular Toy Story series, which also includes the 2022 movie Lightyear. Despite a summer of underwhelming box office results for other big films like Masters of the Universe, Minions & Monsters, and Supergirl, Toy Story 5 had a very strong opening weekend. It made $159.7 million domestically in its first three days – making it both the biggest movie release of the year so far, and the best debut ever for a Toy Story film (the second-best when accounting for inflation).
According to Variety, Toy Story 5 is expected to finish its fifth weekend in theaters with a worldwide total of $958 million. Of that amount, $430 million came from North American ticket sales, and $528 million from international markets. This makes it only the third movie released in 2026 to earn over $950 million globally, following the billion-dollar successes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Michael.
Reaching this point means the movie is expected to earn around $1.1 billion overall, making it the most successful film in the six-movie Toy Story series (without considering inflation). Here’s a look at how all six Toy Story films have performed at the box office so far:

Toy Story 5 is quickly becoming the most successful film in the Toy Story series. It’s projected to be the 63rd movie ever to earn over a billion dollars worldwide, and the third highest-grossing Pixar film, following only Incredibles 2 ($1.243 billion) and Inside Out 2 ($1.699 billion).
Pixar’s original movies have had mixed success at the box office lately – Elemental earned $496.4 million, Elio brought in $153.8 million, and Hoppers made $389.4 million. However, Pixar’s sequels consistently perform exceptionally well, often breaking records for their series. The last sequel that didn’t break a franchise record was Cars 3, released back in 2017.
