Tom Daley’s husband Dustin Lance Black shares rare family snaps as their sons proudly drape themselves in British flags while celebrating the diver’s Olympic win in Paris
As I delve into the heartwarming story of Tom Daley, a British diving legend, my admiration for his resilience and dedication grows exponentially. This man, who has graced the Olympic stage five times, is not just an athlete but a beacon of inspiration for all. His life’s journey, marked by triumphs and setbacks, is a testament to the power of determination and love.
Dustin Lance Black, Tom Daley’s husband, shared numerous heartwarming photos from their family album on Instagram, marking Tom’s Olympic victory in Paris on Monday.
They put their charming sons Robbie (age 6) and Phoenix (aged 16 months) in T-shirts that said ‘That’s My Daddy’, featuring a picture of Tom, as they beamed with pride from the stands, witnessing Tom and Noah Williams win silver in the synchronized 10m platform final.
Tom, aged 30, gleamed with joy as he displayed his medal and snuggled close to his youngest child, allowing only a glimpse of pride on the part of his oldest son, Robbie, who was adorned in a British flag (Union Jack).
In a different moment, the 50-year-old Oscar winner Dustin struggled to hold back tears after his seven-year partner achieved an extraordinary victory.
He captioned the post: ‘Spectacularly special day’.
Enthusiasts and well-known acquaintances swiftly flocked to the comment area. Tom’s sporting companion, Noah, added a heart icon, followed by Ricky Martin expressing approval through clapping emojis.
Actress Laverne Cox expressed: “It’s wonderful to see a supportive family surrounding Britain’s most decorated Olympic diver. A big round of applause for everyone involved.”
While Rosie O’Donnell commented : ‘Just beautiful Lance – Bravo’.
Drag Race Icon Peppermint wrote: ‘I’m so proud of both of you’.
And Bravo’s Andy Cohen added: ‘LOVE THESE PICS WOW’.
Through surrogacy, Tom and Dustin brought home their two sons, having earlier shared that they had each fertilized half of the eggs used. This means they were unsure which one of them was biologically linked to their sons.
Overwhelmed with joy and pride beyond words, I found myself standing at the sidelines of the Olympic arena, my heart pounding as I watched my idol, the athlete, secure his hard-earned silver medal. This wasn’t just any medal; it was the fruit of years of relentless dedication, a testament to his unyielding spirit and unwavering passion for the game. But what made this moment even more special was that my beloved Robbie, my son, was there to share in the glory, his eyes reflecting the same admiration and respect I felt for this champion.
Earlier, the diver shared that he was planning to make a comeback to competitive diving, as his oldest son requested to see him participate in an Olympic event.
Tom revealed during an interview with Sam Quek on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill that it was his young son, Robbie, who inspired him to strive for another Olympic medal in Paris.
He said: ‘This year has felt like a bonus really. 19 months ago, I was sitting on my sofa doing nothing, and deciding to come back because my son – he wanted to see me at the Olympics.
Being here with a silver medal, sharing the pool with Noah, and performing before my loved ones made this moment incredibly unique and memorable.
As Sam asked: ‘So that was Robbie who said that?’ Tom added: ‘Yeah, it was Robbie.’
Phoenix has reached an age where they’re beginning to speak. What will you do if they repeat the same phrase you said?
Tom then continued: ‘Robbie has already cashed in his token – he doesn’t get another one!
However, it’s uncertain about Phoenix. After all, I can’t say for sure if he’ll recall my diving days since he’s just 16 months old.
As an overjoyed parent, I’m thrilled to share that today marks a milestone – my little one is 16 months old! He might not remember this day, but we’ll cherish it forever through the countless photos we’ve taken. There was a moment of playful mischief when he decided to launch his juice bottle at me from the balcony during the mix zone, but honestly, having them there made the experience all the more endearing.
In the 10-meter synchronized platform diving competition held at the Aquatics Centre, Tom and his partner Noah Williams claimed the second place. During the awarding ceremony on the third day of the games, an emotional moment occurred when Noah planted a celebratory kiss on Tom’s cheek.

Hey there, Robert! I’m referring to your unique connection with the Olympic games here. You were honored by being wrapped in a Union Flag at no less than five Olympic ceremonies, with the first one taking place back in 2008 – quite an achievement for someone as young as you were then, just 14 years old! This special bond between us is even more profound because you share a namesake with my dear late father.
Tom won his first medal, a bronze at London 2012, followed by a second at Rio 2016.
And he went on to win gold and bronze at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
Tom had married American screenwriter Dustin Lance Black in 2017.
Following his stay in Tokyo, he relocated to the United States with his two boys, essentially ending his diving career. However, in 2023, after a hiatus of two years, he resumed his involvement in diving, teaming up with a new partner, Noah Williams, for competitions.
