Tom Cruise’s Shocking Reaction to a High-Altitude Stunt in Mission: Impossible

For quite a while, Tom Cruise has performed some extremely daring stunts. Yet, it was recently disclosed by his co-star, Simon Pegg, that there was one specific stunt that left Cruise feeling apprehensive.

Pegg noted that Cruise had shown signs of apprehension for the first time during one daredevil stunt in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. He explained, referring to the scene where Ethan Hunt hangs onto a moving military plane and enters it, “That particular trick was filled with numerous factors that could have led to trouble.”

In stark contrast to the meticulous precision we observed everywhere else, Tom’s daring stunt during the Burj Khalifa climb in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was a thrilling spectacle that genuinely electrified me. As I watched him hang precariously outside the window, his face beaming with uncontainable joy and a look that said “I’m living my best life,” it was impossible not to share his exhilaration.

Since his debut in Mission: Impossible III, Simon Pegg’s character Benji Dunn has established himself as one of Ethan Hunt’s key partners, joining forces with Ving Rhames’ Luther Stickell who first appeared in the 1996 original film. The latest trailer for Mission: Impossible – Fallout hints at callbacks to Brian de Palma’s movie, such as a pocket knife similar to the one dropped during the iconic Langley heist, and suggests Tom Cruise will once again perform death-defying stunts involving planes, as he grips onto a biplane performing acrobatics in the sky.

Tom Cruise Takes His Stunt Work Seriously

To pull off those wing-walking stunts convincingly, I had to put in some serious preparation, and that meant loading up on fuel. So I’d find myself tucking into sausages, eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, and plenty of fluids. Let me tell you, it gets chilly up there at high altitudes, and my body was burning through calories at an incredible rate,” I shared.

In the movie The Final Reckoning, Pegg and Rhames are set to work alongside Cruise. Also joining the team are new agent Grace (Haley Atwell) and Paris (Pom Klementieff), who was once an adversary but has since become an ally. Their mission is urgent: they must stop a formidable AI known as the Entity from being misused by the wrong people. It’s said that this film clocks in at two hours and 49 minutes, making it the longest installment in the series so far.

During his journey, Cruise will persistently execute daring feats, such as the previously mentioned biplane sequence he’s been working on for more than 40 years. Outside of “Mission: Impossible,” Pegg is set to reprise his role in a project that Disney has confirmed will have a sixth installment. He also appears in an upcoming film titled “[Title]” which, unfortunately, had to halt production due to financial constraints.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning premieres in theaters on May 23.
