Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s new film, Digger, will be released in theaters next October. It’s his first movie since Bardo in 2022, and is being called a wildly chaotic comedy.

Tom Cruise swaps his usual action roles for comedy in this film, playing the main character, Digger Rockwell. The movie’s tagline, “In Digger we trust,” hints at the central theme.

Although the new trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot of Digger, Warner Bros. has shared a brief description of Tom Cruise’s character. He plays the world’s most powerful man who races against time to prove he’s a hero before a catastrophe he caused wipes out everything.

The movie title, Digger, is creatively designed on the poster: the letters stack on top of each other to create the shape of a person holding a shovel and wearing cowboy boots.

I’m really excited about this new film! It’s directed by Iñárritu, who also produced it alongside Tom Cruise. And get this – he wrote the script with the same team he worked with on Birdman – Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Sabina Berman – so I have a feeling it’s going to be amazing. It came out in 2023, and knowing those creative minds are behind it makes me even more eager to see it!
