Tom Cruise’s Epic Line That Almost Didn’t Make It Into Mission: Impossible’s Finale!

The final chapter of the Mission: Impossible series was unveiled last month with the premiere of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”. Although whispers about a potential Mission: Impossible 9 have been circulating, for now at least, this film marks the conclusion of Tom Cruise’s portrayal of Ethan Hunt. Since 1996, we’ve watched Ethan save the world countless times, yet it took some persuasion from Cruise to convince writer/director Christopher McQuarrie to include a memorable line in “The Final Reckoning”: “You’re spending too much time on the internet.

In the movie “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”, Ethan Hunt delivers a line during combat against one of the numerous adversaries he encounters, but screenwriter McQuarrie didn’t initially include this dialogue in the script. Later on, McQuarrie determined that the line wasn’t significant enough to keep, however, it was Tom Cruise who improvised and added this line himself, as confirmed by the filmmaker to Empire magazine.

In a simpler manner, you could say: Tom expressed that he wanted to say something. I didn’t understand. So, I responded by asking if we could just proceed already. Then, Tom said, “Let me show you, I’ll do this task.

Given that Tom Cruise is a producer for the “Mission: Impossible” films, you might assume that getting just one line in wouldn’t be much of a struggle. However, it’s Christopher McQuarrie’s movie, and he has the final say on how these movies are put together. He started taking charge after his unaccredited script work on “Ghost Protocol,” which continued with “Rogue Nation.

Thankfully, Christopher McQuarrie yielded on his decision, and it turned out to be beneficial for Tom Cruise since he appreciated the way the line sounded in the end. To quote McQuarrie himself:

Boy, the first time it played, I turned and was like, ‘Fuck you, dude. OK, fine, you win.’

Tom Cruise, with a career in acting spanning more than four decades, has made a name for himself in action movies, but it’s clear he offers much more than just action roles. This versatility is evident in his ability to craft compelling “tough guy” dialogue when portraying characters who mete out punishment to wrongdoers. It’s no wonder we could compile an impressive list of badass lines spoken by Ethan Hunt over nearly three decades.

Impossible movie, as evidenced by TopMob’s Final Reckoning review awarding it 4 out of 5 stars. However, I’m still pleased that Christopher McQuarrie included this line in the film, considering Tom Cruise suggested it. In fact, it serves as a useful warning about excessive internet use; if you irritate an IMF agent, they might chide you for it.
