As a seasoned admirer of Hollywood’s elite, I can confidently say that Tom Cruise’s recent death-defying stunt at the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremonies has left me utterly astounded and impressed. The man never ceases to amaze us with his unyielding dedication, relentless drive, and extraordinary talent for pushing the limits of human capability.

The daring stunt performed by Tom Cruise during the closing event of the 2024 Paris Olympics is still a hot topic among spectators, it seems that he even carried out this feat without charging anything.

At the usual conclusion of the events, there is often a symbolic transfer of responsibility for hosting the following Olympic Games to the upcoming city, which, in this case, is Los Angeles in 2028.

62-year-old Cruise, who recently made headlines for continuing to pay his daughter Suri’s annual college tuition fee of $65K despite not seeing her for 11 years, descended from the peak of Stade de France prior to carrying the Olympic flag to Los Angeles.

Although the stunt grabbed global attention, Casey Wasserman, president and chairman of LA28, shared insights about the stunt.

Apart from being deeply involved in the performance, he himself, along with his dedicated stunt crew, carried out the entire act pro bono.

At the Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows in Santa Monica, Wasserman took part on the CNBC x Boardroom: Game Plan panel alongside LA28 board member Jessica Alba and Team USA’s managing director, Grant Hill.

Following his descent from Stade de France, Cruise traveled by motorbike across France, then boarded an aircraft for a leap over the skies to reach Los Angeles.

As I pedaled alongside, I handed over the flag to mountain bike racer Kate Courtney, completing my task while adding a touch of Olympics spirit by adorning the legendary Hollywood sign with the iconic Olympic rings.

After that, Courtney passes the flag to renowned U.S. Olympic track athlete, Michael Johnson. He carries the flag from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum across the city’s streets, eventually passing it to professional skateboarder Jagger Eaton.

Wasserman joked, ‘It’s amazing how fast he got to L.A., isn’t it?’ before delving into the origins of this stunt.

Wasserman stated that they discovered they were making a 15-minute live TV program, and as a result, he believed Ben Winston, whom he considers the finest individual in the world for this task, was hired.

He said Winston had two ideas – one involving Cruise and the other that would make the Olympic rings rise out of the ocean, ‘like a David Blaine kind of thing.’

Wasserman shared that they presented their concept to Cruise via a Zoom call, mentioning, ‘our initial proposal involved a person in the stadium acting as a stunt double.’

Wasserman stated, “Initially, we thought that we wouldn’t manage to secure all aspects of the project. We were given a four-hour filming window and expected to mainly use a stunt double for most scenes. However, during a presentation, Cruise surprised us by saying, ‘I’m in, but only if I can do everything.’ This was around five minutes into the meeting.

Despite Winston attempting to convey that the event could still be uncertain given Cruise’s fluctuating schedule, Wasserman responded by expressing that he became increasingly invested and active throughout the process.

Winston admired Cruise greatly, commenting, “I believe there’s no one else quite like him on this planet. He makes an exceptional collaborator.

Apart from performing all those daring stunts without charging a fee, Tom Cruise also took time out of his busy shooting schedule for the latest Mission: Impossible film to record the pre-prepared segment in a remarkably demanding manner.

‘He finished filming Mission: Impossible at 6 p.m. in London, got right on a plane. He landed in L.A. at 4 a.m., and filmed the scene where he pulls onto a military plane,’ Wasserman says.

In Los Angeles, he executed two leaps from whatever object he was on. He wasn’t fond of the initial jump, so he performed a second leap. Subsequently, he helicoptered from Palmdale to the Hollywood sign, filmed between 1 and 5, then helicoptered to Burbank Airport before returning to London – this is what Cruise stated.
