Tom Cruise & Ana De Armas: New Action Movie Duo?
This summer, the movies “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” and “Ballerina” are anticipated to generate a lot of buzz at the box office. However, the leading stars of these action-packed films have been making headlines not just for their performances, but also due to rumors about their relationship. Recently, it appears that we now have an explanation as to why Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt have been spending so much time together. According to Deadline, they are set to collaborate in Cruise’s long-awaited supernatural action thriller titled “Deeper“.
The movie, directed by longtime collaborator of Tom Cruise, Doug Liman, has been in development for nearly a decade with little progress until recently. It now appears that the dynamic duo behind “Edge of Tomorrow” and “American Made” are considering adding Ana de Armas to the film. Initially based on a Max Landis spec script, the project has since undergone revisions by another frequent Cruise collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie.
To date, more developments regarding the storyline haven’t emerged, except that it features Tom Cruise performing thrilling underwater dives as an astronaut character who encounters a malevolent entity hidden within the unexplored abyss of a deep-sea trench.
This news comes after a fresh interview given by de Armas prior to her “John Wick” film premiere, in which she finally addressed the whispers about her close association with the action star.
In her interview on Good Morning America, the actress shared that she and her co-star have a remarkable professional bond. She expressed hope that this collaboration might extend to multiple projects in the future. De Armas commented:
We’re having a blast, and there’s certainly plenty to keep us busy! We’ve got multiple projects in the works with Doug Liman, Christopher McQuarrie, and of course, Tom. I can hardly wait!
After wrapping up my summer immersed in the stories of these two remarkable characters through their individual films this year, I can’t help but ponder over the possibility of seeing them together on the big screen one day. It’s hard to imagine that their cinematic journey is truly over, isn’t it? Only time will tell, as the mysteries unfold and the truth unravels, much like a well-washed garment revealing its hidden patterns.
Ana de Armas Has Been Building an Impressive Action Resume – Despite Saying She Was Done With the Genre
Ana de Armas, an actress, swiftly established herself in Hollywood. Starting a decade ago with roles in films like “Knock Knock” (coincidentally alongside her subsequent co-star, Keanu Reeves) and “Blade Runner 2049”, her performance in “Knives Out” led to an action-packed stint in Daniel Craig’s last James Bond film, “No Time to Die”. Following this, she has acted alongside Chris Evans in “Ghosted” and “The Gray Man”, and is now set to challenge the Baba Yaga himself in “Ballerina”.
It seems that her action-packed journey isn’t concluding, as working with Cruise suggests a different genre other than a lighthearted romantic comedy. This is unexpected given her previous statement in 2023 about avoiding further action roles post the John Wick movie. She had stated to Vanity Fair: “I don’t think I want to do more action films after this.
Following Bond, there was a surge of action roles which were enjoyable. I selected those I found more thrilling or collaborated with individuals I admired. However, I believe Ballerina might mark the conclusion of this phase, at least temporarily, as I’m now drawn towards films similar to Blonde. I desire to work with directors and delve into character development. Fortunately, I’ve had the chance to connect with directors I wish to collaborate with. This shift in my professional circles is exhilarating.
It seems like Mr. Cruise has an exceptional talent for persuading people to be part of his thrilling, action-packed movie universe – that’s if we’re talking about work relationships, of course. On May 23, you can catch Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, while fans of de Armas won’t have to wait much longer as they can see her in action on June 6 in the movie Ballerina.
