Todd Snider dead at 59: Country music star passes away after mystery illness and recent clashes with police

Americana music icon Todd Snider has died at 59, his label confirmed Saturday.

For over thirty years, the singer-songwriter – famous for songs like Alright Guy – was a leading figure in his genre, connecting with audiences through heartfelt, clever, and relatable music.

His label, Aimless Records, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook Saturday morning.

We are heartbroken to share that Todd Daniel Snider has passed away. His songs were full of kindness and insight, and he had a unique way of helping people see the world in a new light.

We’ll always remember you, Todd, and cherish the times we shared. Keep traveling and know we’ll meet again someday. You were a truly powerful and unforgettable person.

I was absolutely floored when I heard! It was less than a day after his family shared that he was in the hospital with… well, they weren’t even sure what it was at first, just called it some kind of walking pneumonia. I’ve been glued to updates ever since, honestly. It felt like such a shock, even though it was just described as ‘undiagnosed’ at first.

The family shared some sad news: Todd started having breathing problems after returning home last week and was hospitalized in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

We recently found out our brother had been dealing with walking pneumonia, which hadn’t been diagnosed. His condition has unfortunately become more serious, and he’s now receiving extra care at another facility.

‘His care team and those closest to him are by his side and doing everything they can.

We’re currently asking all of Todd’s friends and family to keep him in their thoughts and offer him support in any way that feels comfortable.

‘Say a prayer, light a candle, roll one up, send strength, or just keep him close in your heart.

You’ve always been a strong support for him, and he really needs that support from all of us now, especially at this time.

No official cause of death has been released.

This tragic news follows a string of troubling events over the past month.

Snider experienced an assault, an arrest, and a tour that was abruptly canceled.

He was once arrested in Utah while attempting to re-enter a hospital after being discharged, which unfortunately meant he had to cancel his second scheduled performance.

Ultimately, the tour was halted after just one date, leaving fans and fellow musicians shocked.

Even with everything happening now, Snider will always be remembered as a genuine and emotional storyteller who made a big impact on the Americana music world.
