‘Today’s’ Sheinelle Jones says ‘family health matter’ is behind her absence from show

Sheinelle Jones expresses appreciation for the backing of her fanbase and TV colleagues while she temporarily steps away from on-screen duties to handle a private issue.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’d like to share that on Monday, I opened up about my recent absence from the third hour of the “Today” show, where I work alongside Dylan Dreyer, Craig Melvin, and Al Roker. I’ve been away since last month, and now I’m ready to discuss the reasons behind this hiatus.

She expressed her gratitude on Instagram towards those who contacted her during her absence from the show, saying, ‘I’m away dealing with a personal family health issue.’

In 2014, Jones became a member of the NBC News team, yet she did not reveal specifics regarding a personal venture that prevented her from her usual post. However, she admitted to having a strong network of support, both inside and outside the “Today” show’s studio.

Hoda Kotb is relinquishing her role as co-host on NBC’s ‘Today’ program, with well-wishes pouring in from her children, Kathie Lee Gifford, Jimmy Fallon, Gayle King, Kermit the Frog, among others, during this transition.

In a heartfelt message to her audience, she expressed, “Your kindness is deeply appreciated,” and signed off, looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.

In the comments below, colleagues Jenna Bush Hager and Savannah Guthrie expressed their admiration for Jones. Hager affectionately referred to Jones as a “queen” and promised continuous support, stating they are always there with open arms. Guthrie mentioned that the morning show misses Jones’ presence and eagerly awaits a swift reunion.

“We love you, Sheinelle,” the “Today” Instagram account replied.

Jones’ departure coincides with significant transformations taking place within the NBC morning show. Just last week, after a 17-year tenure, Hoda Kotb emotionally bid farewell from her role in the show. As of this past Monday, Melvin assumed Kotb’s seat and responsibilities.

Though Kotb’s time as a “Today” co-host is over, she still sent love to Jones.

“We love you ….. you are being held….. you are family xoxo,” she commented on Jones’ post.
