HBO Max is now streaming Gokko, bringing two of the most popular cartoon characters ever created to a new audience.
The popular streaming service HBO Max now features the animated series Tom and Jerry Gokko, as reported by the Animation on HBO Max fan account. Currently, only the first episode, titled “Food & Home,” is available, but more episodes are expected to be added soon.
HBO Max Finally Brings Cartoon Network’s ‘Tom and Jerry Gokko’ to Streaming
Tom and Jerry was created in the late 1930s by the talented duo William Hanna and Joseph Barbara, starting as a series of funny short films that quickly became popular. Though the characters changed slightly over the years, they always kept the special charm that Hanna and Barbara originally gave them. In 1963, Chuck Jones, a famous animator from Warner Bros., and Les Goldman took over the series, giving it a fresh take and ushering in what many consider its most significant period.
Though similar in style to classic Tom and Jerry cartoons, Tom and Jerry Gokko has a noticeably warmer and more cheerful tone. Produced by Fanworks and Studio Nanahoshi with Warner Bros. Japan and Turner Entertainment, the series debuted in Japan on Cartoon Network in 2022. It quickly became popular with children, offering 52 one-minute shorts on various subjects. These shorts have since been organized into 14 episodes, each focusing on one or two of the show’s themes.
Besides the recent release of Tom and Jerry Gokko, another new installment of the classic cartoon may have gone unnoticed by many fans. Last August, Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass premiered in China. This was the first Tom and Jerry feature film created entirely with CGI. Produced in collaboration with Warner Bros. and China Film Co., Ltd., the movie celebrates the franchise’s 85th anniversary and follows Tom and Jerry on a time-traveling adventure after a museum chase leads them to a strange new world. As of now, there are no plans to release the film in the United States.
Tom and Jerry Gokko is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
