Today show star Sarah Abo, 40, breaks down in tears live on-air as she announces she is pregnant with her first child with husband Cyrus Moran

Sarah Abo is expecting her first child with her husband Cyrus Moran.

The 40-year-old star of the Today show tearfully announced she was expecting a baby during Wednesday’s broadcast.

I’m probably going to get emotional, but Cyrus and I are having a baby,” she shared.

This is wonderful news, of course. It’s been a challenging path to get here, and I know many others have experienced – and will experience – similar difficulties.

‘It’s not as easy as you sometimes think that pregnancy will be. 

Things haven’t been easy, but we’ve made it this far. It’s becoming increasingly obvious, and while I’ve been trying to avoid talking about it, I think we’re about halfway there now.

 

The Syrian-born presenter has been married to Cyrus since 2012.

Oh my gosh, Cyrus? He’s amazing! He’s a trader – can you believe it? – at this incredible Victorian steel mill. Basically, he’s the one making all the deals happen, connecting Australian businesses with companies all over the world. It’s seriously impressive, he’s so vital to everything!

Cyrus and Sarah both attended Monash University. Cyrus earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 2004, while Sarah started her journalism studies at the same university that year.

Sarah generally doesn’t talk about her romantic life, but she sometimes shares cute pictures of her and Cyrus online.

A photo from May 2023 shows Miley Cyrus and Dominic Fike, affectionately known as a couple, celebrating her 40th birthday. In the picture, Sarah is seen lovingly hugging him at a party.

Sarah shared a birthday message with a photo, writing: ‘Happy birthday to you, beautiful and a little blurry! #fortyandfine.’

She told Stellar magazine that her husband likes to keep a low profile.

He’s not trying to stay out of the public eye, he’s just not appearing in the news much lately,” Sarah explained on the Something To Talk About podcast.

Sarah mentioned that people often express surprise that her husband, after 13 years of marriage, isn’t interested in working in the media industry.

She explained that some people just couldn’t grasp the difference, saying, “They think, ‘Why can’t he do what I do? I have a strange job and a strange life… he doesn’t!”‘

Because they value their privacy, the couple has faced some uncomfortable moments. For example, he refused to be on a Today show segment celebrating her 40th birthday.

‘Today wanted to get my family in Melbourne up via video link, but they were like, “Oh, Cyrus, can you just come on set and just wish Sarah a happy birthday,”‘ she said.

He firmly refused, saying, “Are you going to harm me if I don’t appear on television? I apologize, but would you mind if I didn’t do it?”

Oh my gosh, Sarah just told everyone how amazing their relationship is! She said the biggest thing for them is just always being there for each other, and she genuinely meant it when she told her husband she’d support anything he wants to do. It’s so sweet, I’m practically melting! They’re relationship goals, seriously!

He hesitantly agreed, saying he’d do it only if I insisted, but he clearly didn’t want to. I told him I didn’t want him to feel pressured to do something he wasn’t comfortable with, because that just wasn’t his personality, she explained.
