Entertainment journalist Richard Wilkins has spoken out after reports surfaced that his friends, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, have separated after 19 years of marriage.
The Daily Mail reported on Monday that the 58-year-old Oscar winner and the 57-year-old musician are separating, bringing an end to their marriage and family with their two children.
Richard shared the surprising news on Channel Nine’s Today Extra with hosts David Campbell and Renee Bargh.
I’ve been friends with Keith and Nicole for 40 years. I hosted the G’day USA event where they first met many years ago, and I’ve gotten closer to them as a couple recently,” he explained.
Both of them are incredibly special friends to me, and I care for them deeply. I don’t have anything further to say about this.
Over the years, they haven’t said anything about what’s been going on in my life, and I won’t be commenting on what’s happening with them either.
On Monday, Daily Mail reported that Nicole and Keith have separated, bringing their 19-year marriage to an end.
Recently, they haven’t been able to spend much time together because of their busy work with filming and touring – but a source suggests there’s still a chance they could get back together.
According to a source, Keith and Nicole rarely see each other, as she’s often filming and he’s frequently on tour. Despite the strong affection they once shared, and the possibility they won’t divorce, they lead separate lives, as if they don’t exist in each other’s worlds. More details are emerging.
Keith and Nicole have been a couple for many years, and while it’s possible for them to work things out, their current relationship isn’t functioning as a healthy partnership.
The Daily Mail reached out to spokespeople for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban for more information, but they haven’t responded yet.
The former couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
Nicole was married to Tom Cruise, 63, from 1990 until 2001. During their marriage, the couple adopted two children together.
It recently came to light that Nicole was spending a significant amount of money each month to maintain a luxurious London residence, separate from Keith.
The actress is currently in England filming the follow-up to Practical Magic, and is living in a lavish home in Hampstead that previously belonged to pop singer Boy George.
The impressive home is said to cost the Moulin Rouge actress $87,288 each month for rent, and her husband, Keith Urban, is not currently living there.
According to Woman’s Day, filming for the Practical Magic sequel has finished in the UK, and Nicole Kidman is reportedly ‘getting comfortable’ in her new ‘dream home’.
According to a source, they try to talk each day when they’re not together, but it’s surprising how much time they’ve been separated since Nicole’s mother passed away last September.
The source added that the actress’ living arrangements were raising eyebrows among the community.
‘It’s like they both went their separate ways. Now she’s getting comfortable in a dream home in London on the other side of the world,’ they added.
Her husband, who is a country singer, is currently on tour across the US and Canada with his High and Alive tour, and the tour is scheduled to continue until mid-October.
