‘Today’ host Sheinelle Jones’ husband Uche Ojeh dies from glioblastoma at age 45

Today Show co-host Sheinelle Jones‘ spouse, Uche Ojeh, passed away due to brain cancer at the age of 45. They had been married for 17 years.

On a solemn Friday morning, Savannah Guthrie, joined by her teammates, shared the news with deep regret during the broadcast. As she spoke, she acknowledged that Ojeh had valiantly waged a battle against a particularly aggressive type of brain cancer known as glioblastoma.

Today show co-host Sheinelle Jones informs her followers that she’ll be back with them soon, as she handles a personal family health issue. She has been away from the screen since last December.

She went on expressing her heartache, saying there’s no way to put into words the sorrow felt by everyone for Sheinelle and their three little ones. Uche was truly remarkable; we all adored him deeply.

On Friday, Jones shared a picture of her spouse together with a clip from a recent broadcast. The short message accompanying it expressed gratitude towards everyone who stood by them during Ojeh’s health struggles.

In a heartfelt tribute, Guthrie stated that Uche was an exceptional individual, radiant with spirit, kindness, and belief. To Sheinelle, my cherished one, know that we adore you and the children profoundly. I am in awe of your resilience. You are enveloped by love now and forever.

As a devoted admirer, I’m sending all my love to Sheinelle – wrapping my arms around her now, and forever more! This was the heartfelt message Jenna Hager shared. Fellow talk-show host Tamron Hall and former “Today” co-host Hoda Kotb have also extended their condolences.

Over the weekend, Janet Jackson began her “Together Again” tour with a spectacular performance featuring 40 songs, along with a special guest appearance by ‘Today’ show host Sheinelle Jones.

Meteorologist Dylan Dreyer, who also co-hosts the third hour of “Today,” added her sentiments by writing, “I hope you can find comfort in the love and prayers that are with you and your remarkable children. I consider myself fortunate to have known Uche, and his spirit continues to shine through your family.

As a passionate film enthusiast, I find myself drawn to the heartbreaking narrative of Glioblastoma, the most relentless form of cancer affecting our brain and spinal cord. The Glioblastoma Foundation shares this grim reality, lamenting that the existing standard of care offers little hope. Sadly, for those who undergo treatment post-diagnosis, the average lifespan is a mere 15 months. In stark contrast, those who choose not to seek treatment typically live between three and six months.

While the research into novel treatments offers a glimmer of hope, the Mayo Clinic cautions us that Glioblastoma remains an incurable condition. As I watch this battle unfold on life’s silver screen, I can’t help but hold onto the hope that one day, we’ll be able to rewrite this tragic script and bring a happy ending to this heart-wrenching story.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share some health-related news about the legendary singer Michael Bolton. The Mayo Clinic typically identifies this disease when individuals are around their mid-60s, but unfortunately for Mr. Bolton, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma at 72 years old. In late 2023, he experienced nausea and balance issues, which led to his diagnosis and an emergency brain surgery in January 2024.

Jones, who co-hosts the 3-hour segment of “Today” alongside Dreyer, Craig Melvin, and Al Roker, has taken a leave from the program since mid-December, dealing with a personal health issue within her family.

During the holiday season, Michael Bolton underwent an unexpected and urgent brain surgery due to the discovery of a tumor. He’s currently focusing on recovery and taking some time away from work for healing purposes.

During that period, an NBC News employee who had been with the network for 11 years did not reveal specifics, yet affirmed her network of support both on and off the set of “Today,” stating it was incredibly meaningful to her. In January, it was reported that the situation was significant, but it didn’t pertain to Jones or her three children with Ojeh: Kayin, 15, and twins Clara and Uche, who are both 14 years old.

In September 2007, Ojeh got married to Jones, who they met on the Northwestern University campus in Evanston, Illinois during the 1990s. At that time, Ojeh was attending classes and Jones was a high school student touring the campus. Later, she recounted in an interview with her alma mater’s magazine in 2024, she pretended to be a “tour guide” to impress him.

“I told him I would take him around,” Jones said, “because he was cute.”
