‘To Be Hero X’: Why Ghost Blade Kills Sheng Gets Partly Revealed In Season 1 Episode 15

In Episode 15 of “To Be Hero X,” currently streaming on Crunchyroll, we learn more about one of the main characters, Ghost Blade, as the series delves into why he took Ah Sheng’s life. This newest installment in the Chinese “To Be Hero” anthology series explores a world where superpowers are bestowed upon individuals based on whether people believe they can perform their specific super-powered ability.

In Episodes 15 and 16 of the popular Chinese animated series, the enigmatic Ghost Blade becomes the main focus, delving into his past and his role within the ongoing superhero tournament that drives the show’s narrative. Within the universe of To Be Hero, this character serves as a sort of ‘enforcer,’ handling troublesome heroes who have been marked for removal. The public perceives his reserved nature as incredibly intimidating, causing them to believe he is completely mute due to his badass image.

In simple terms, “Becoming Hero X” is the newest superhero series within the “To Be Hero” universe, produced by Chinese animation studio BeDream. The fresh installment premiered on FujiTV in China and Crunchyroll globally around mid-April. Much like “My Hero Academia” of 2025, this show focuses on a band of superheroes vying to increase their public approval ratings and claim the number one spot (known as Hero X).

So, Why Did Ghost Blade Kill Sheng?

Exploring Ghost Blade’s past unfolds in episodes 15 and 16 of To Be Hero X, viewers catch a glimpse into the character’s heartbreaking backstory, which reveals that he was responsible for the death of a man named Ah Sheng.

Prior to participating in the series’ continuous superhero competition, Ghost Blade had a different role: he was employed as an assassin of superheroes, eliminating those deemed expendable by his paymasters.

In my critique of this captivating film, I found the protagonist’s actions intriguing. Born into adversity, he yearned for a life beyond his challenging upbringing. Seizing an opportunity that presented itself, albeit one that transformed him into a lethal instrument, he didn’t hesitate. His decision was swift and decisive, driven by a relentless desire to break free from his past.

Among the initial deaths portrayed, there was Ah Sheng. There has been much debate among fans that Ah Sheng could be the father of a major character, Little Johnny, and at some point, he held the position of Hero X.

The series never provided a direct explanation for why Ghost Blade killed Sheng initially. But just because it wasn’t shown doesn’t mean there wasn’t one. In fact, based on information Ghost Blade received prior to the hit, Sheng was identified as a whistleblower. This suggests that Ghost Blade was hired to eliminate the hero in the end.

However, there are theories amongst series fans that perhaps the character was framed.

Among fans of “To Be Hero X,” it’s widely believed that Ah Sheng was entirely good-hearted. However, contrary to Ghost Blade’s explanation that Ah Sheng had to perish due to his exposure of sensitive information, this might not be entirely accurate.

It appears some people believe the character was set up, not having truly blown the whistle as Ghost Blade’s employer suspected. Essentially, Ghost Blade, being a former Hero X, ended up taking a life that was still innocent and pure.

As Ghost Blade progresses, it becomes apparent that he might uncover the real reasons for Ah Sheng’s demise, which was seemingly an innocent man he had killed. This revelation could lead him to grapple with the consequences of his actions.
