Tina Knowles Reveals ‘Taboo’ Move That Saved Beyoncé and Solange From Becoming Rivals

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but marvel at the bond shared by the dynamic duo, Beyoncé and Solange Knowles. But did you know their sisterly love could have taken a different path? In my own words, I’d like to share how Tina Knowles skillfully steered them away from rivalry as children.

She wisely instilled in both daughters the importance of unity, teamwork, and mutual respect. By encouraging them to support each other’s dreams rather than compete with one another, she fostered an unbreakable bond that has stood the test of time.

Whenever they found themselves at odds or vying for attention, Tina would gently remind them of their shared destiny and the power of sisterhood. She taught them that their individual successes would only be amplified when they worked together, fostering a sense of camaraderie that has served them well in their professional lives.

In essence, Tina Knowles’ tireless efforts to nurture and strengthen the bond between Beyoncé and Solange as children have resulted in one of the most inspiring sibling relationships we’ve ever witnessed. Their journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of love, understanding, and cooperation.

Sharing openly at the age of 71, this loving mother spoke candidly about nurturing her two renowned children, and reminisced on the efforts made when she sensed a growing divide between them.

In their childhood, before they had achieved tremendous fame, she admitted to resorting to an unconventional method to heal the tension that was developing among them.

In an interview with Sara Sidner on CNN News Central, she mentioned that her two daughters were quite distinct from each other.

Knowles expressed fear when she observed that other children began excluding Solange, yet Beyoncé permitted them to speak to her disrespectfully.

In her memoir, Matriarch, published on April 22, the author shared a heartbreaking secret that continues to affect her family. She explained that she sought therapy as a means to strengthen and deepen the connection between her and her sisters.

She asserted she was resolute, even against Matthew Knowles’s disagreements, who felt that it was premature for her to take such actions because they thought she was too young.

From 1980 to 2011, she was wedded to the father of her daughters for a span of 31 years. They parted ways following their divorce in 2011.

He previously managed Destiny’s Child as well as the solo careers for both Beyoncé and Solange. 

As a lifestyle expert, I find it fascinating that despite reports suggesting Beyoncé had reservations about therapy while Solange seemed to embrace it wholeheartedly, Matriarch Tina Knowles shared that both daughters developed a stronger bond following their therapeutic sessions.

The fashion designer remembered a time when, during the early stages of their entertainment careers, her daughters were on the path to stardom as child performers.

At the tender age of nine, Beyoncé teamed up with her friends to create Destiny’s Child, originally known as Girl’s Tyme.

‘I was terrified when Beyoncé turned around 10,’ Knowles told the outlet.

As a lifestyle expert, I can share an anecdote about a young girl, perhaps 10 or 11 years old, who was part of a singing group. Every day, her peers would urge her, “Solange, be quiet,” because she had this innate desire to choreograph and contribute to the group’s performance in a more substantial way. This is something I vividly remember from my past observations.

‘She bossed it, too. And they didn’t want her involved,’ Knowles added.

Later on, I began observing that Beyoncé seemed to let people speak to her in such a manner or she’d respond, “Alright, Mom, could you please ask Solange to leave? She is…” (implying that Solange was causing some sort of disturbance or issue)

‘And I’m like, “Wait a minute, this is her house, and you’ve got to be nice to her,”‘ she said.

I explained everything to her about how crucial it was, but eventually understood they weren’t paying attention, sensing a barrier growing between us. That’s when I enrolled them in therapy.

Though it was considered ‘taboo’ at the time, Knowles said she forged forward. 

She said, “I responded with, ‘I don’t need to ask. I’ll locate someone.’ And that’s exactly what I did. I came across a fantastic child therapist,” she reminisced.

Additionally, it’s amusing since he shared with Beyoncé what I had confided in her, yet she seemed to pay more attention to his words, despite her dislike for therapy. On the other hand, Solange embraced therapy wholeheartedly; she enjoyed opening up and expressing herself.

The mother beamed, adding, “The result was fantastic! It was truly wonderful because they had always been incredibly close.

It comes after Tina revealed her secret cancer battle in a candid on-camera interview.

She shared that she had just been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, as medical professionals found two growths during her recent mammography examination.

Tina shared that her daughters kept her upbeat during difficult medical visits by providing a boost to her mood.

‘I was nervous,’ she told Gayle King on CBS Mornings. ‘And so they started just joking with me.’

At one low point, Knowles shared with me a viral video featuring the term ‘demure’, aiming to lift my spirits, which it certainly did.

She burst into laughter, momentarily escaping her thoughts, and then exclaimed, “It brings me such joy to see all of you,” expressing her feelings about the heartwarming incident.

In one of her surgeries, Solange and her niece Angie Beyincé performed ‘Walk With Me’ for Knowles prior to the procedure.

Knowles expressed tearfully, ‘It was like God was leading me into something and shielding me. I felt completely under His care.’

Knowles mentioned that while she has overcome cancer, she encountered numerous challenges during her journey.

She informed CBS Mornings that she nearly had to cancel her attendance at Glamour’s 2024 Women of the Year event in October due to a severe post-surgery infection she had contracted.

Knowles explained that Beyoncé specifically advised her to take a break instead of going to the event, yet she persisted because it held significant importance for her.

For much of her life, she opted to remain unacknowledged. She would never accept an award, nor crave the spotlight on herself… and this was her way of telling herself, “I am worthy of recognition.

If I were a dedicated fan speaking in my own words, I might say something like this: “I shudder to think what could have happened had I not postponed my mammogram appointment. Thankfully, Beyoncé shared that her cancer was detected earlier because of it. It’s a stark reminder for us all about the importance of regular check-ups.
