Tina Fey Is Staying Mum Over If Steve Carell Could Come Back To The Four Seasons, But Has A Big Declaration About Killing Him Off

In the past two weeks, The Four Seasons emerged as one of Netflix’s most successful 2025 releases, with the streaming platform announcing Season 2 almost immediately following its debut. During a recent interview, Tina Fey disclosed that she and her writing team have already begun work on the upcoming season, expressing their intention to fill the void left by Steve Carell in our hearts.

In a startling revelation in episode 7 of “The Four Seasons”, it’s disclosed that Nick, portrayed by Steve Carell, met an unfortunate end in a car crash during a skiing trip with his younger girlfriend Ginny and her companions. Despite his attempts to evade them via video calls with his friends and playing games on an iPad, this tragic event occurred. Since the series renewal, I’ve been disheartened by Carell’s absence, but could there be a possibility for him to return? This is what Tina Fey hinted:

OR

In a surprising turn of events in episode 7 of “The Four Seasons”, we discover that Nick (Steve Carell) passed away in a car accident while skiing with his younger girlfriend Ginny and her friends. Even though he was trying to dodge them by chatting with his own friends and playing games on an iPad, this sad incident took place. Ever since the series was renewed, I’ve been saddened by Carell’s absence, but could there be a chance for him to reappear? This is what Tina Fey suggested:

I couldn’t possibly say.

Speaking to Deadline, Fey kept her cards close to her chest when asked if there could be more for Carell’s character Nick following his on-screen demise. However, the show’s co-creator and lead actor revealed that the upcoming season will continue to focus on the same characters and their annual vacation as a group, much like previous seasons. During the conversation about The Office star, she made this significant statement about Nick’s fate:

Among the numerous errors I’ve committed during my career, I hope that this particular action – taking his life – will prove to be the most monumental one.

Although I’m deeply missing Steve Carell not being a regular on “The Four Seasons”, I have faith that there might be a flashback episode to make up for it. However, the show’s cancellation seems to have taken a toll on the former SNL cast member. Given Steve’s charming personality, I can only imagine the criticism he’s receiving about his decision. What makes this situation even more intriguing is how Carell responded to the Season 2 renewal. In Tina Fey’s own words:

Our humorous group chat exploded with excitement upon learning about Season 2, with everyone exclaiming things like ‘Yay! Hooray!’ and so on. But only a few minutes later, Steve simply said, “I’ve kicked the bucket.

Although I’m disappointed by the turn of events, I must acknowledge that it was an impressive narrative choice, and a refreshing departure from the initial film, particularly considering how the conclusion set things up. In the closing scenes of “The Four Seasons“, after Nick’s funeral service takes an unexpected turn, his friends gather to reminisce about him. When they raise their glasses to toast him, Ginny abstains, revealing that she is carrying his child. This plot twist opens up a lot of possibilities for the friend group, particularly between Ginny and Nick’s former wife, Anne.

It seems likely that the arrival of a baby will cause Ginny to become part of Nick’s friend circle. This could potentially reopen old wounds among the other couples, concerning their late friend and the topic of parenthood. If Nick’s death was Fey’s most significant error, she certainly appears to be thriving. I’m really looking forward to watching Season 2 with my Netflix account!
