Timothy Olyphant is back on television after a seven-year gap, playing the villain in a popular Apple TV series. He’s well-known for his roles as law enforcement figures, including U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in Justified and Sheriff Seth Bullock in Deadwood.
Timothy Olyphant has consistently impressed on television with memorable roles in shows like Santa Clarita Diet, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Terminator Zero, and Alien: Earth. He even playfully portrayed a fictionalized version of himself on The Good Place. Now, with his recent string of successful projects, Olyphant has truly solidified his place as a prominent actor.

Since Netflix ended Santa Clarita Diet in 2019, Timothy Olyphant hasn’t returned for a full season of any TV show. This is unusual considering his previous long-running roles: three seasons of Santa Clarita Diet, six of Justified, and three of Deadwood. While he did revisit his character Raylan Givens in Justified City: Primeval, that was a limited series spinoff, not a continuation of the original Justified series.
Timothy Olyphant became a popular character in the Star Wars universe by playing Cobb Vanth. He first appeared in season 2 of The Mandalorian in 2020 and later in The Book of Boba Fett in 2022. Although these two shows are closely linked within the Star Wars story, they are separate series. Despite a scene after the credits of The Book of Boba Fett suggesting he survived, Cobb Vanth didn’t reappear in the third season of The Mandalorian, which was released in 2023.

Timothy Olyphant will be back for season 2 of the Apple TV+ comedy Stick, ending his brief hiatus. He played the antagonist, Clark Ross, in season 1 – a former competitor and golf buddy of the main character, Pryce Cahill (Owen Wilson). Both Olyphant and Judy Greer have been promoted to series regulars. The show has been well-received, earning an 82% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating from critics and a 72% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Timothy Olyphant is expected to reprise his role as Kirsh in the second season of Alien: Earth, in addition to his work on Stick. FX confirmed the show’s renewal in November 2025, with production scheduled to begin in London in 2026. With both Stick and Alien: Earth on his schedule, Olyphant seems set to avoid a pattern of leaving shows after only one season.
