Timothy Busfield indicted on four counts of child sex abuse in New Mexico

Timothy Busfield, an Emmy Award-winning actor from shows like “The West Wing” and “thirtysomething,” has been charged with child sexual abuse by a New Mexico grand jury.

Prosecutors have filed charges against Busfield for four counts of sexually abusing a child, according to the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office. Busfield’s lawyer didn’t respond to requests for comment on Friday.

District Attorney Sam Bregman stated that, like all criminal cases, Mr. Busfield is considered innocent until proven guilty in court. The case will now follow the standard legal process and is likely to go to trial.

A judge ruled Tuesday that Timothy Busfield can be released from police custody while he awaits trial on accusations of child sexual abuse in New Mexico.

The D.A.’s office added that its special victims unit will prosecute Busfield’s case.

I was shocked to learn that a judge in New Mexico issued an arrest warrant for George Busfield last month. He’s been accused of some truly awful things – specifically, two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse. According to documents filed by officials, these allegations stem from incidents involving two young brothers who worked with him as actors on the show “The Cleaning Lady.” He was involved in multiple roles on that show – as an actor, director, and producer – and it’s heartbreaking to hear these accusations about someone who held so many positions of power.

Busfield and his lawyers have refuted the claims against him. The 68-year-old was released from jail in New Mexico on January 20th, with a promise to appear in court as required.
