Okay, so I just saw the new trailer for Marty Supreme, and it looks awesome! It’s a sports drama with Timothée Chalamet, and it’s based on the story of a real table tennis player, Marty Reisman. We’re finally getting it in the UK on December 26th, 2025 – mark your calendars!
Set in 1950s New York, Marty Supreme tells the story of Marty Mauser (Timothée Chalemet), a young man determined to become a ping pong champion. The movie follows his challenging journey as he travels to Japan to compete against his biggest rival, Koto Endo (Koto Kawaguchi), showcasing both his triumphs and setbacks.
The film is directed by Josh Safdie, known for his work on the 2019 movie Uncut Gems. It features a star-studded cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Fran Drescher, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, and Abel Ferrara in supporting roles.

Even before it comes out, Marty Supreme is generating Oscar talk, particularly because of Timothée Chalamet’s acting. The film’s cinematographer, Darius Khondji, recently shared how dedicated Chalamet was to preparing for the role of Marty.
Cinematographer Darius Khondji told Variety that Timothée Chalamet approached his work on the film wanting to emulate the precision of a professional ping pong player. Khondji believes audiences will see a noticeably different side of Chalamet in this role, stating he’s going to be unlike anything they’ve seen from him before.

“I don’t think people are going to recognise him at all,” he teased.
Timothée Chalamet recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he felt a strong connection to his character, Marty, because of his own experiences navigating the film industry. He explained that this role felt the most personally relatable of his career, saying, “In spirit, this is the most who I was that I’ve had to play.”

I didn’t have luck or a laid-back approach to achieving my goals. It took a lot of hard work – countless hours of practice, even. I made some unconventional choices, like leaving college to take risks and pursue unique projects. Looking back, the decisions I made in my twenties were pretty bold.
Chalamet explained that Marty Mauser’s story is all about looking at different perspectives, and that really resonated with him.
Marty Supreme will land in UK cinemas on 26 December 2025.
