Timothee Chalamet reveals the feature he was told would prevent him from succeeding in Hollywood

As an ardent admirer of Timothée Chalamet, I find his journey to Hollywood stardom nothing short of inspiring. It’s fascinating how he defied the naysayers who doubted him due to his physique, choosing instead to focus on projects that resonated with him deeply. Much like Bob Dylan found his voice in folk music, Timothée found his rhythm in smaller, more intimate films. His resilience and determination are commendable, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table next – perhaps a sequel to Call Me by Your Name where they bake a pie while solving world problems? Just kidding, but wouldn’t that be something!

I’m currently making waves in Tinseltown, having graced the silver screen in the smash hits Dune and its sequel, as well as the blockbuster prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Willy Wonka.

But Timothée Chalamet faced plenty of doubters early in his career.

During a recent chat with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the 28-year-old Academy Award nominee disclosed that his body type was often pointed out as an obstacle by Hollywood professionals, who weren’t convinced he’d succeed in the business.

In his recollection, if he had tried out for movies like ‘The Maze Runner’ or ‘Divergent’, which were popular during his rise, the consistent response he received was, “You don’t fit the physical profile we’re looking for.

The solution from several people supposedly in the know was to bulk up.

In simpler terms, Chalatet mentioned that someone contacted him and advised, “You need to gain some weight,” in a non-aggressive manner.

Instead, rather than going to the gym every day and seeking advice from nutritionists, personal trainers, and possibly using steroids, the ambitious actor chose to concentrate on roles that were most captivating for him, ones that did not necessitate a drastic physical change.

Chalamet explained that he chose to focus on a deeply personal approach to acting, resulting in him starring in films such as the award-winning gay romance “Call Me by Your Name,” the intense drug drama “Beautiful Boy,” and both of Greta Gerwig’s highly praised directorial projects: the semi-autobiographical film “Lady Bird” and her adaptation of “Little Women.

Chalamet stated that the films, which had smaller budgets, had a warm and inviting feel to them. He added, “These were the productions where I discovered my pace, my self-assurance, my creative flow, if you will.” This theater space was significant for him.

The high-profile figure drew a parallel between his involvement in films that are deeply intimate and his character’s journey, who is portrayed by him in the forthcoming biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’, and Bob Dylan’s rise to prominence.

For Dylan, folk music was his calling. He found it challenging to maintain a rock and roll band as they’d often be poached by other young musicians who had more financial resources, a common issue back then in Minnesota.

Absolutely, Timothée’s initial accomplishments in independent and art cinema haven’t stopped him from appearing in big-budget movies as well.

Over time, he swapped smaller yet significant character appearances for more substantial leading ones, eventually landing the prestigious part of Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s dual film version of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed sci-fi novel, Dune.

Despite earning only modest box office returns in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic’s impact and Warner Bros.’ decision to make the film available for free to subscribers of Max (formerly HBO Max) on its release day in theaters, the movie was highly praised by both critics and fans.

In 2021, Dune: Part Two turned out to be an even greater triumph at the box office, while Timothée Chalamet played the lead role in the musical prequel film Wonka. This production garnered decent reviews and was yet another hit at the box office.

As a devoted enthusiast, I continue to squeeze in smaller, intermittent endeavors – such as my Dylan biopic and the upcoming collaboration with co-director Josh Safdie on his film titled “Marty Supreme.

A Complete Unkonwn is expected in theaters in the US on Christmas Day.
