Timothee Chalamet reacts to history-making Oscar nomination as Kate Hudson breaks down in tears over shock nod

Timothée Chalamet reached a significant point in his career with a historic Oscar nomination. Meanwhile, Elle Fanning expressed heartfelt emotion upon receiving her first-ever Academy Award nomination at the 98th Academy Awards.

Timothée Chalamet, age 30, was nominated for Best Actor for the third time on Thursday morning. His film, Marty Supreme, is a frontrunner at the awards, receiving a total of nine nominations.

The actor quickly shared news of the nominations on Instagram, celebrating with a simple caption: ‘BIG DREAAAAM!!!!!’

He shared the movie’s poster and encouraged his followers to aim high, announcing that ‘Marty Supreme’ will be released in IMAX theaters on January 30th.

Timothée Chalamet’s nomination made him the youngest actor in over 70 years – since Marlon Brando in the 1950s – to earn three Best Actor nominations.

He received his first nomination in 2018 for his role in Call Me By Your Name, and was nominated again in 2025 for playing Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

Last year, he lost the Oscar to Adrien Brody for The Brutalist.

Chalamet has previously spoken candidly about the sting of awards-season losses.

He explained to Vogue in November 2025 that losing isn’t easy. ‘Imagine five people at an awards show – four of them are going to be disappointed,’ he said. ‘You don’t think they’re upset? People can criticize me all they want, but I’m the one putting in the work.’

He shared those feelings in an interview on SiriusXM, saying it was ‘especially funny’ to have prepared a speech and then not win anything.

You’re likely thinking, ‘What a self-centered, conceited person! What were you hoping to achieve by doing that?’

This morning, 27-year-old Sadie Fanning received her first-ever Oscar nomination, as a Best Supporting Actress for her work in the film Sentimental Value.

The actress posted a screenshot from a FaceTime call, showing her genuine reaction to the news. She looked emotional while talking to director Joachim Trier and his wife, Helle Bendixen Trier.

Fanning expressed disbelief and shock in a caption, writing, ‘I can’t believe this is happening! It feels like a dream, and I’m struggling to breathe.’

She shared that her mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt were all at her house, celebrating with ‘screams, hugs, and tears.’ She also said she felt incredibly honored to be nominated with such inspiring women.

Fanning also celebrated the film’s broader success, writing, ‘The whole house got nominated!!!’

Elle Fanning received an outpouring of support from her peers after the film’s release. Brie Larson shared a heartfelt message, writing, ‘Love you sis!! You and the film are just so beautiful!!!!!!’ Riley Keough simply exclaimed, ‘Yesssss Elle,’ and Bijou Phillips expressed her pride with a congratulatory message.

As contenders reflected on nominations morning, several shared their reactions with Variety.

Kate Hudson called receiving her second Oscar nomination for Song Sung Blue ‘thrilling,’ and jokingly mentioned her mother, Goldie Hawn, is already picking out clothes for them to wear to the ceremony together.

She posted a video on Instagram of herself crying happy tears, along with a heartwarming photo of her hugging her mother.

Hugh Jackman, who starred with her in Her Song Sung Blue, was one of the first celebrities to congratulate her, calling the nomination ‘well deserved’ in a post on his Instagram Story.

The film Sinners received a record-breaking number of nominations, and producers Ryan and Zinzi Coogler said they were still processing the incredible accomplishment.

Ethan Hawke and Amy Madigan were also nominated for acting awards. This is Hawke’s fifth Oscar nomination, earned for his role in Blue Moon. Madigan expressed her surprise at receiving her first nomination in forty years, recognizing her work in Weapons.

Oh my gosh, the 2026 Oscars are going to be amazing! Seriously, I’m already losing it just thinking about it. So many fresh faces are up for awards, and there’s been so much history made this year – records broken everywhere! And the reactions? Forget about it! Everyone is SO emotional, it’s already clear this is going to be one of the most unforgettable Oscar nights ever. I can’t wait!

Jessie Buckley, nominated for Best Actress for her performance in the 2025 film Hamnet, immediately responded after learning her co-star, Paul Mescal, hadn’t received a nomination.

After the nominations were announced, Buckley told The Hollywood Reporter that she found her co-star exceptional in the film and felt a deep connection with him, describing him as a lifelong collaborator. She expressed immense admiration for his talent, believing it will continue to develop and resonate in various forms for years to come.

She explained that their collaboration created something truly special, which she deeply cherished. She emphasized that her character, Agnes, and the entire story wouldn’t exist without Paul’s contributions. Any success the story receives, she believes, belongs to him just as much as any recognition he receives for his own work.

In a statement regarding her nomination, Buckley shared her gratitude, saying she was deeply inspired and moved by the work of the other talented artists and nominees, and felt honored to be among them.

Honestly, Chloé Zhao completely touched my heart when she invited me to help bring Maggie O’Farrell’s story to life and create the character of Agnes alongside her. And Paul, I truly believe Agnes wouldn’t exist without your vision. I’m so thankful to have collaborated with such a talented group of artists on this project. For me, simply creating something is a huge win, and this recognition isn’t just for me – it’s for every artist who fearlessly puts their heart and soul into their work and explores the depths of their own creativity. I’m overjoyed, incredibly grateful, and so humbled to be a part of this artistic community. Thank you all.
