Tim Curry says Macaulay Culkin was a ‘very nice kid’ as he recalls tired child star ‘falling asleep’ on the set of Home Alone 2

Tim Curry shared some fun stories about working with Macaulay Culkin on the set of Home Alone 2, reminiscing about his experiences filming the movie.

The veteran actor, age 79, recently reflected on his long career in a new interview with The Academy.

He visited the Margaret Herrick Library, where archivist Louise Hilton showed him items from his previous films, and he reminisced about his career.

He described working with Macaulay Culkin, 45, saying that the director, Mac, would often stay up all night watching movies and then doze off while Culkin was getting his makeup done.

Curry added, ‘I liked him. He was a very nice kid.’

Tim Curry, who played the hotel concierge in ‘Home Alone 2,’ shared that filming at New York City’s Plaza Hotel wasn’t a great experience. He joked that his room had a view of just a brick wall.

Macaulay Culkin returned as Kevin McCallister in the follow-up to the hugely popular 1990 movie, Home Alone. In this film, he mistakenly finds himself in New York City when his family travels to Florida for the holidays.

He famously stayed at the Plaza Hotel, where he met the suspicious concierge, Mr. Hector.

Macaulay Culkin was recently saddened by the passing of Catherine O’Hara, his co-star and the actress who played his mom in several films. She died on January 30th at the age of 71.

Shirley O’Hara died at her Los Angeles home after a short illness. The official cause of death was a pulmonary embolism, and she had been battling rectal cancer.

Culkin took to Instagram in the wake of her passing and shared two photos of them together.

He shared a heartfelt message, saying, ‘Mom, I didn’t realize time was so short. I wished we had more moments together, just sitting and talking. I had so much left to tell you. I love you, and I’ll see you again someday.’

In his recent memoir, Vagabond, Steph Curry shared that he suffered a stroke in 2012 while receiving a massage.

Over 13 years ago, the actor best known for his role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show suffered a stroke at his home in California. This left him with weakness and difficulty speaking on one side of his body.

He explained that he didn’t suddenly lose consciousness or feel unwell. In fact, he hadn’t noticed anything was wrong at all.

The massage therapist wasn’t sure what was happening, but noticed worrying changes in the actor’s body and realized something was seriously wrong.

Curry initially thought he was ‘overreacting’ and told him not to call 911. 

He wrote that he likely survived because the other person didn’t hesitate, trusting their gut and immediately calling for an ambulance.

Even while they were taking me to the hospital, I still believed my massage therapist had exaggerated the problem, and that everything happening felt silly and pointless.

After his evaluation, doctors determined the actor would need a craniectomy.

He wasn’t aware of how serious his health problem was until after the surgery. He later found out he’d had a stroke that caused blood clots to travel to his brain, and doctors had removed two of them.
