Tim Burton’s Batman: The Iconic Film That’s Taking Tubi by Storm!
Tim Burton’s “Batman” was the initial major movie appearance of DC Comics’ Dark Knight, and for many viewers, it remains one of the most memorable. Although Christopher Nolan revolutionized superhero films with his Batman trilogy, it’s challenging to argue that, in the eyes of many fans, “Batman” (1989) will forever be synonymous with the caped crusader. Now, due to its availability on the free streaming platform Tubi, fans have been expressing their fondness for this iconic film.
Initially, fans expressed disapproval upon learning that Michael Keaton was cast as Batman due to his popularity for comedic roles like Beetlejuice in another Tim Burton film. The concept of this light-hearted actor entering the grim, violent universe of Gotham City raised doubts among many. However, when the movie eventually premiered, Keaton and co-star Jack Nicholson significantly transformed the landscape of superhero films forever with one of the most successful movies of the decade.
Although fans initially resisted Keaton as the main character in the film, he ultimately made such an indelible impact on the role that after his second appearance in the controversial “Batman Returns”, it was challenging for subsequent actors to live up to his portrayal, especially when the entire franchise underwent a transformation under Joel Schumacher’s direction. Similarly, Nicholson’s portrayal of Jack Napier, or Joker, set a standard that was hard to match until Heath Ledger brought a much grittier, unsettling version of one of the most iconic comic book villains to life.
Batman Will Return in James Gunn’s DCU and Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman Part II’
Fans of comic books had to endure a lengthy wait for Batman’s first big-screen appearance, and after the movie Batman & Robin, it appeared as though they might have to hold on for another few decades before witnessing the Dark Knight rise from the rubble again. However, the introduction of Christopher Nolan’s realistic film Batman Begins revolutionized the superhero genre once more, discarding the fanciful elements and placing Bruce Wayne in the midst of more authentic antagonists.
2021 marked the emergence of another Dark Knight, Robert Pattinson, who took on the role amidst pre-debut controversy. In the minimalist film titled The Batman, he portrayed a grittier and more detective-like Batman than what many had anticipated. Although some viewers found it challenging to embrace a superhero movie that deviated significantly from the norm, most audiences welcomed this fresh take on Batman’s future exploits.
James Gunn is planning to restart the Batman saga within his DC Universe. While Matt Reeves’ franchise continues as an “Elseworlds” project, the search is on for a new actor to embody both Bruce Wayne and Batman. This fresh Batman will join David Corenswet’s Superman in upcoming heroes slated for reintroduction this summer in the film titled Superman. Titled tentatively as The Brave and the Bold, the new Batman movie is likely a few years away, but fans can take this time to revisit where Bruce Wayne’s cinematic journey originated with Tim Burton’s Batman.
