TikTok star cops backlash for complaining about noisy toddler in café: ‘I was trying to work!’

An Australian social media personality is facing backlash after posting a TikTok video where she complained about a noisy child at a café.

TikTok creator Natalie Sinead posted a video explaining that a noisy toddler nearby made it difficult for her to focus on her work.

She started by saying she was wondering about proper etiquette when bringing children to public places. This morning, she’d gone to a café hoping to get some work done on her laptop.

I chose a spot near the parking lot hoping for some peace and quiet. I’d been sitting there for about fifteen minutes when a little boy came out playing with a wind-up truck, and its rattling sound broke the silence.

The Gold Coast influencer explained she was having trouble focusing because a young child was playing nearby. She was taken aback when the child’s parents didn’t ask him to quiet down, even though they were in a public place.

She sat there for several minutes, increasingly bothered by the noise. “It’s so disruptive,” she thought. “Why does everyone expect me to deal with someone else’s child? I have work to do, too!”

It was frustrating and took my attention away from what I was doing. I didn’t want to cause a problem, so I didn’t say anything, but I’m not sure if I should have.

There’s a right time and place for everything, and a café isn’t it when it comes to being loud and bothering others.

‘I feel like it is rude because it is disrupting to other patrons.’

She then suggested that loud children should relocate to a more suitable playtime environment.

She explained that children running around and being loud wasn’t appropriate for that setting, suggesting a more suitable location like a beach or a park where both kids and adults could enjoy themselves.

Most of Natalie’s followers disagreed with her statements and criticized her online. They argued that people should expect some level of noise when they’re in public places like cafes.

I was really annoyed by this video. Someone commented that the woman is complaining about a normal toddler just being a toddler in a café.

‘Disrespectfully, if you don’t like kids, don’t go outside,’ a second added.

‘You get the choice to live a child-free life but not in a child-free world,’ a third chimed in.

‘I don’t think a café is the right place if you want peace and quiet,’ another suggested.

‘Maybe a library could have been a good choice for your work,’ someone else suggested.

There’s been a lot of discussion recently about whether diners in Australia have a right to a peaceful environment when eating at restaurants and cafes.

Oh my gosh, the Gold Coast cafes? They’re just… everywhere! It’s amazing and a little crazy. You walk in, and it’s like a total mix of people – students glued to their laptops, people on job interviews practically living on Zoom, and freelancers who’ve clearly decided cafes are their official offices. Honestly, it’s hard to tell if you’ve walked into a place to actually hang out or just a giant, open-plan workspace. It’s wild, but I kind of love it!
