In the spirit of the captivating tales spun by Joe Exotic, I find myself, dear reader, drawn into the whirlwind that is his extraordinary life. A man who has faced adversity time and again, from the tragic loss of his partners to the unrelenting feud with Carole Baskin, Joe’s journey is as wild as the big cats he once tended to.

Despite currently serving a 21-year prison term at the federal level, Joe Exotic has declared his intention to get married, as he has revealed his engagement.

Introducing Jorge Marquez, aged 33. This remarkable individual hails from Mexico, as shared by Exotic in a recent post on platform X (previously known as Twitter), from his cell at the Federal Medical Center, Fort Worth.

‘Now, the quest of getting married in prison and getting him asylum or we be leaving America when we both get out,’ the Garden City, Kansas native added. ‘Either way, I wish I would have met him long ago.’

According to the Tiger King himself, who is also recognized as Joseph Maldonado-Passage, he claims to have applied for marriage at the federal prison with Marquez.

His fiancé is serving time for immigration-related issues, according to a report from CBS News.

The two men are not just confident that the prison will grant their marriage request, but they also maintain a strong belief that Exotic’s appeal for his entire case, encompassing his conviction for hiring hitmen to target animal activist Carole Baskin, will be successful.

He claims to have evidence such as ‘video confessions under oath’ and ‘700 phone recordings of federal agents.’

In the statement he issued, Exotic has appealed for a presidential pardon, not just for him, but also for his partner, and additionally, he’s sought asylum for Marquez.

Maldonado expressed, ‘I hope the future President or one who assumes office does the fair thing and grants me a pardon so I can escape this long-lasting nightmare that my nation has inflicted upon me for the past seven years. The only crime I committed was creating a zoo, yet it seems some people were envious. Consequently, I found myself imprisoned by my own country.’

During a phone conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Maldonado-Passage shared updates on the current stage of the ongoing process.

Yesterday, we submitted our marriage application forms from prison, and now we are simply awaiting approval. He is optimistic that it will be granted on December 12th.

According to him, their marriage application must receive approval from both the warden, mental health professionals (psychiatrists), and the chaplain prior to receiving official license approval.

In their own words, the central figure of Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness expressed that they share a profound love for one another and are inseparable, spending every moment of their day together.

He commented, “I’ve had quite a few challenges in my life. I lost two spouses, a third one eloped with 2.6 million dollars from Netflix, abandoning me, but Jorge is an exceptional young gentleman.

In the past, Exotic was married to Travis Maldonado, who tragically took his own life accidentally in 2017. Subsequently, he began a relationship with Dillon Passage just two months later. However, their relationship ended amicably in 2020, leading them to separate and file for divorce the following year.

In 2019, Joseph Maldonado-Passage (also known as Joe Exotic) was found guilty and given a 22-year prison term on 17 counts of federal animal cruelty charges and two attempts to hire someone to kill Carole Baskin, the founder of Big Cat Rescue.

In early 2022, approximately two years after requesting a retrial, an American appeals court determined that the two attempted murder convictions had been incorrectly viewed as separate cases. As a consequence, his sentence was shortened by one year, and he was resentenced to serve 21 years in prison.

Critics have heavily criticized Exotic, primarily due to the disputes he’s had with Baskin and allegations concerning the animal care at the G.W. Zoo.

He has been highlighted in numerous documentaries, such as the popular Netflix show Tiger King (2020-2021), which delved into his career as a zookeeper and his conflict with Baskin, as well as two by Louis Theroux titled “America’s Most Dangerous Pets” (2011) and “Shooting Joe Exotic” (2021).

Additionally, a TV series titled “Joe vs. Carole” which revolves around the relationship between Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic was broadcasted on Peacock starting March 3, 2022.

Exotic anticipates his release from prison in 2025 with optimism, and he’s been brainstorming plans for post-prison life, which includes pursuing a career in academia.

His intention is to eventually pass on his extensive knowledge about tigers in an educational context, potentially through delivering presentations or talks.

In early March, Roger made an attempt to overturn the initial verdict due to freshly uncovered proof, but the lower court turned down his petition for a re-trial.

As stated by his lawyer Roger Roots, it appears that Joe’s first trial was significantly flawed, with mistakes reaching the core of the allegations. If these errors had been recognized during the trial, it is likely that Joe would not have been found guilty.
