Tia Mowry, 46, reveals she suffered from anxiety as a teen while shooting Sister, Sister
As a dedicated follower of Tia Mowry‘s journey, I can’t help but admire her resilience and grace. Her experiences as a child star, navigating the pressures of live performances, rejection, and anxiety, are a testament to her strength and determination. It’s heartening to see how she has learned to manage her anxiety by understanding its root causes and practicing mindfulness.
Tia Mowry opened up about the pressures of being a child star.
The Sister, Sister actress, 46, talked about the anxiety she felt when she was a working teen.
She mentioned that it was during the “Sister, Sister” era when she initially experienced periods of anxiety related to performing in public for the first time. This memory has stayed with her.
In a recent interview with People, she shared her nerves about performing in front of a live audience, explaining it’s as if her bones are trembling. She pondered what would happen if the joke she was supposed to deliver, as written in the script, didn’t elicit laughter.
For six seasons, starting from 1994 until 1999, the sitcom featured Tia’s twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley, Jackée Harry, and Tim Reid in the main roles.
In the context of a performance, if you’re just a young performer… if you want to excel on this assessment, you seem preoccupied with crushes. She went on explaining.
It seems like you’re feeling anxious about maintaining your position and concerned about your appearance. In essence, you’re dealing with quite a few things at once.
She went on to say she eventually got used to it and also over it.
She mentioned that she eventually grew accustomed to performing while experiencing nervousness. However, what truly assisted her was understanding the reasoning behind it.
She mentioned, “I sometimes wonder, what’s causing these feelings within me? Though you may not always find the exact reason, consciously pondering on the triggers that cause your anxiety can be beneficial for understanding it better.
One approach that assists me as well is imagining the scenario. By picturing myself performing the same actions, it aids in aligning my brain with my behaviors, making me more comfortable with the situation.
One challenging aspect, particularly for child actors, is dealing with the frequent disappointments that come from acting as a profession.
She acknowledged that nothing ever seemed to become easier for her, but she was extremely young at the time. She recalled auditioning for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, hoping to play the character Ashley, but unfortunately, she didn’t get the role. That rejection left her feeling quite downhearted.
But time taught her a valuable lesson there too.
‘I came to understand that without being turned down, I wouldn’t have been able to create Sister, Sister. Sometimes, it’s essential to believe in the path and trust the journey, knowing that whatever is meant for you won’t pass you by.’
Tia’s latest reality TV series, titled “My New Chapter,” focuses on her current life situation – navigating through her divorce with Cory Hardrict and distancing herself from her twin sister Tamera.
In a promo for the show, an emotional Tia drops her kids Cree, 13, and Cairo, six off with their father and then breaks down.
In a recent interview, she expressed that the hardest aspect of her divorce has been being on her own. She wishes, especially during these moments, that her relationship with her sister was stronger so they could talk more often. However, she acknowledged that their current situation doesn’t allow for that closeness at the moment.
The celebrity, known for their success in the late ’90s with Tamera on the TV show “Sister, Sister,” didn’t disclose the reasons behind the rift with their identical twin sister.
The television premiere of her new series took place on October 4th on We TV, focusing on a mother of two who re-enters the dating scene following a divorce.
In the first episode of the show, cameras follow Tia as she goes on her first date.
She expressed that the date turned out wonderfully, she mentioned during a private moment, “You know, it reminds me of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Maybe I could find my own Prince Charming!
Whether or not she gets that kind of fairy tale ending, Tia is happy she took the first step.
She mentioned that if he doesn’t propose a second date, which she is willing to accept, then that’s fine. She’s content with herself for having the courage to agree to a first date without knowing him beforehand.
