The journey to the International 2025’s playoff round has concluded, and the top eight teams globally are now geared up for this significant phase. This year’s tournament is back in Germany, with 16 teams earning their spots through a qualifying process using the Swiss-system group stage format.
Following a sequence of dramatic turns over four days, these are the teams now vying for the significant portion of the continually expanding prize money:
- Xtreme Gaming (China)
- Team Tidebound (China)
- Nigma Galaxy (WEU)
- Team Falcons (WEU)
- PARIVISION (WEU)
- Tundra Esports (WEU)
- BetBoom Team (EEU)
- HEROIC (SA)
Road to The International recap
In a surprising twist for some, this TI has been particularly unforeseeable. The unexpected elimination of Na’Vi, the young team that had been dominating the WEU region’s qualifiers, marked the beginning of these unpredictable events. Subsequently, Team Liquid, last year’s champions, and Team Spirit, who have recently contested two Grand Finals, were both knocked out early from the tournament.
Instead, let me rephrase that statement for you: Surprisingly, two teams not typically associated with The International playoffs found themselves qualifying this year: HEROIC, who often exit Tier 1 tournaments early, and Nigma Galaxy, who haven’t competed in The International since 2019.
Regrettably, SEA suffered an early exit from both Team Nemesis and BOOM Esports in the tournament. Despite the fact that Valve set aside two slots for the region this year, it failed to maintain representation. Additionally, the Wildcard team from North America didn’t advance past the Swiss stage.
Personally speaking, during the matches leading up to The International 2025 Playoffs, I was surprised by a surprising Helm of Dominator strategy that emerged. Teams like PARIVISION showcased some fascinating games where they invested in this item for no less than five of their heroes, even going as far as equipping it on the support Monkey King! Quite an intriguing turn of events, wouldn’t you agree?
TI 2025 playoffs schedule and where to watch
In the final stages of competition, we find ourselves with just eight teams remaining. In this double-elimination tournament format, all teams initially begin in the Upper Bracket. The order or positioning of these teams is determined by the points they accumulated during the Swiss stage.
