Critics have once more voiced their disapproval towards the alteration made by The Thursday Murder Club in one of its character’s portrayal, finding it regrettable.

The Netflix movie, much appreciated by viewers, faced backlash from readers of the book due to significant alterations in the portrayal of Henry Lloyd-Hughes’ character Bogdan, which some found “incapable of being excused.
In the movie, Bogdan gets caught for killing Tony Curran, a significant departure from the book where his wrongdoing remains hidden, even though Stephen discovers what actually happened.
Later on, Bogdan frequently reappears as a character across the series’ subsequent novels, often lending assistance to the Thursday Murder Club during their investigations.
Changing his character’s role in the film sparked debate among fans, as they believe his arrest might mean that Bogden will no longer appear in any upcoming movies.

The move to alter Bogden’s character in the movie stirred up disagreement within fan circles, with many speculating that his arrest may prevent him from featuring in future productions.

In a critique that differed from others, Anna Tryc-Bromley, head of the Polish Cultural Institute (an organization supervised by Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs), referred to the movie as a “misadventure farce.
According to The Times report, Tryc-Bromley expressed that the movie was perceived as perpetuating a negative stereotype about Poles. She described this depiction as regrettable or unfortunate, the Times article suggests.
She pointed out that it’s long overdue for us to stop portraying Poles as simple characters, given that the initial fictional figure was much more multidimensional.

Tryc-Bromley commented that it was regrettable and comical how the movie failed to cast a Polish actor for the character Bogdan, when Helen Mirren, who conversed about Polish cuisine with him, seemed to have better command of the language than the actor himself. Inexplicably, they didn’t even consider casting a native Pole for the role.
Before the movie’s premiere, Lloyd-Hughes, aged 40, justified his portrayal of Bogdan by stating: “Richard Osman excels in creating a familiar setting at first glance, but beneath this facade lies a more complex and captivating reality.
Bogdan can be quite complex, yet there’s something about him that makes you want to cheer for him. I believe his actions stem from a positive source.
