Thursday Murder Club’s Richard Osman recalls “amazing” Steven Spielberg set visit

As a long-time gamer and movie enthusiast, I must say that being a fly on the wall during the filming of The Thursday Murder Club with Steven Spielberg was like winning the grand prize in a lifetime lottery.

The upcoming “Thursday Murder Club” film boasts a star-studded cast, and another top-tier actor recently dropped by the set.

On August 13, Steven Spielberg, known for his production work through Amblin Entertainment, visited the film set. This event was described as “incredible” by Richard Osman during a recent episode of The Rest Is Entertainment podcast.

Initially, there was something remarkable about him – an aura of greatness. You encounter individuals where your reaction is, ‘Wow, you must be Steven Spielberg!’ And it was truly delightful observing that even fellow actors were thrilled to be in his company, as Osman remembered.

“I won’t say what anyone said, but Sir Ben Kingsley was talking to him about Schindler’s List and their experience in such a beautiful way and he clearly loved Steven Spielberg. It was so gorgeous. Paul Freeman who was in Raiders of the Lost Ark, they were talking about that.”

Osman went on to explain that they were shooting a significant scene involving numerous background actors that very day, and he found Steven Spielberg to be exceptionally gracious.

He mentioned that at some point, others noticed me, and then, surprisingly, Steven Spielberg appeared, hiding behind me. It turned out that all the actors were incredibly thrilled by his presence.

“The bond between him and director Christopher Columbus is simply charming; they have a deep affection for one another. Truly, it was like a dream come true, and he was nothing short of delightful. It was a splendid sunny day, and he embodied all the qualities one could hope for.”

Upon Spielberg’s departure from the set, I seized the moment for a heartfelt exchange with the esteemed Hollywood icon. I chose to keep things straightforward and sincere.

He shared, “At the very end, I expressed my gratitude by saying, ‘Thank you for all that you do and the happiness you’ve spread around the globe.’ I didn’t feel the need to say anything more since I had already thanked him.”

Reflecting on all the amusement, emotions, and memories he has given us through his tales, it feels gratifying to have a chance to greet him, shake his hand, and express our gratitude. That moment was truly heartwarming.

The motion picture adaptation of “The Thursday Murder Club” has been under production in the United Kingdom since June, with an anticipated premiere on Netflix in the near future.

Although we haven’t set a definite launch date yet, assuming filming concludes by September as planned, we might not have to wait much longer for the announcement of the movie release.

The Thursday Murder Club does not yet have a confirmed release date.
